General Talk / Kiet’s progress report
« on: March 19, 2024, 10:59:57 AM »
Kiet received his lung transplant on 2/25…now we are settled in, in Palo Alto for at least a 3 month stay. All in well…lots on pain, at times, in his knees and ankle. His doctor feels 2 or 3 weeks the pain should subside
Now Kiet is cooking up a storm, and chomping at the bit…non-stop. And he is ready for visitors, anytime.  His doctor visits are early Monday and Thursdays. Hope to see friends soon!

Kiet has received his new lungs…Ryan says all is well and we need to keep a close watch on him.
Gratitude and prayers for the families that made this possible for Kiet. And to Ryan, who spent all day at the hospital…a difficult and stressful effort. Thank you Ryan!

General Talk / Kiet’s GOOD NEWS!
« on: February 20, 2024, 07:17:03 PM »
Ok!!! After Kiet has jumped thru a million hoops, he is 100% ready for his double lung transplant.
Kiet is resting comfortably at the Stanford hospital, receiving the best care in the world….7/24.  This is just what is needed. Now the waits on for the proper lung donor.
I will find out if Kiet can receive visits…you can contact Kiet on Facebook and/or leave a message here.
Thank you to all who have given Kiet the strength to tackle this illness head on. He will get over this hump and return to the Cove to fish and enjoy his family soon! Ron

General Talk / Kiet’s transplant update
« on: May 28, 2023, 08:04:38 PM »
Ok folks, more interesting news for Kiet. Kiet and I are heading down to Stanford Medical Facility for a 4 day visit
Not sure at this moment what types of test and evaluations he will go thru….starting on Monday 6/5, to Thursday 6/8.  Up to this point I have the opinion there will be 10 miles of red tape and 5000 hoops Kiet will have to jump thru, to become eligible for a lung transplant.
But…Kiet is committed…100% onboard. I will check back in after the 4 day visit with another report
Not sure if Kiet will be up for it, but it might be nice for you friends to visit…maybe for dinner   Give me a call or text and if possible, we can make a plan for dinner. Ron Perry. 925-577-7336.
    Thanks!!!! For his support!

General Talk / Keit’s GREAT news
« on: April 26, 2023, 07:21:02 PM »
Just finished talking with Kiet. He is extremely jacked up.  On June 6th he has an appointment at Stanford to determine his potential eligibility for a lung transplant.
Please remember… I am the low level dishwasher/janitor/empty the waste paper baskets and clean out the toilet guy. Not exactly sure where this puts Kiet with his transplant. BUT, this has to be good news.
I plan to travel with Kiet to Stanford….what Kiet needs here is an advocate who understands the language and direction he should travel with his medical care. For me it is my wife.  If anyone in this field can step up and advise/ support/help Kiet with his options, please step up

On another note, thanks to Kenny Baker and Joseph Velho! These guys whipped ass at Kiet’s property a few weeks back. Tons of clean up, sold a ton of stuff, and now have Kiet’s property in manageable condition.  Still making a plan to cleanup and have a get together at Kiet’s place soon. Will keep all posted, Ron

Hobie Kayaks / Hobie Outback seat upgrade
« on: February 23, 2019, 08:39:27 PM »
Hi Outback owners, I have a 2014 Outback. Can I fit the new seat in my Outback? Or is there another option out there for a better seat? I am 62, still an endurance fisherman on the ocean, and my present seat is worn out. Thanks for any replies! Ron

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / FF battery help
« on: January 14, 2019, 08:45:29 PM »
Hi everyone, I need some help. I have  a Garmin echo 300c with the large 12v battery sold by Hobie. I replaced the battery about one year ago. It worked excellent for about 10 trips. Now the battery will not charge...it reads about 7.5 volts after three tries to charge. I left it on overnight.
The battery charger has the green light on after each charge. I am a 40 plus year union electrician and have a accurate Fluke meter....no problem there.
It is either the charger or the battery.
Does anyone have a Hobie 12v charger or a similar charger I can try charging my battery with? I am in the Humboldt area, Blue Lake, and can leave the battery with you....along with a 6 pack of your favorite IPA...or if you need any Humboldt "medicine".
I will attach pictures of the battery and charger. Thanks, Ron

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Rpt: Stone Lagoon 1/12
« on: January 13, 2019, 06:57:12 PM »
First trip to Stone Lagoon yesterday, 1/12. Thanks to all for getting me up to speed! Met Tyler at 7:30am on the nose. He had a 10 or 11' Outback, mine is a 12 foot Outback.
Trolled every inch of the lagoon, I had a small takedown and Tyler had a better takedown around 8:30am, right out front. Neither fish stuck. Took a break from trolling for about 20 minutes, then back at it until about 3:00pm. Tyler hung until about 3:30pm.
I trolled Little Cleo's and Kastmasters with zero weight up to 1/2 ounce egg sinker. Tried everything. Had the kayak on the van and ready for a beer when Tyler called and just landed a good steelhead, around 25 inches, release in great shape.
We both had our shirts off....maybe 65 degrees and top wind of 3kts! Best weather of the year, flat ALL DAY! What an excellent spot. Heard of friends fishing Big Lagoon and Freshwater Lagoon with slow results. Maybe the water was a tick dirty from the rain, and maybe I didn't know what I am doing yet! Thanks again to Tyler and all on this site, Ron

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Stone Lagoon hook-up
« on: January 07, 2019, 09:26:41 AM »
Just retired November 8th!!! Moved to Blue Lake....still unpacking and doing a large remodel. Ready for the salt in early spring....salmon, rocks, halibut, albacore, 42 years free diving...ready for 42 more.
Anybody want to show me around Stone Lagoon? ANYTIME! I have a Hobie Outback and am a endurance fisherman. Also have a 19ft center consol Starcraft for the ocean. Catch and release for me in Stone Lagoon.
Been fishing the Mad a few times...want to fish all the rivers, but they may be blown out for a short while...I am also a Baja lover...40 trips in the last 42 years, always drive down and camp.
Ready for Stone Lagoon, please drop me a message, Ron

Fishing Pics / Baja photo 1940's
« on: May 29, 2018, 06:46:13 PM »
Hook and release anyone? Here is why we should be compelled to let all large fish go.

Baja had a TON of large grouper caught from Island Carmen.... for 40 years. Not any more.

Went out yesterday, 4/20 with my daughter and her boyfriend from Colorado. Arrived at Richmond at about 3:30pm. Had some live bait donated from a couple of cool dudes at Richmond as they were pulling out. They had a few small halibut from the Berkeley flats. Also talked to another boat who scored 6 stripers and three halibut.
Made it to Paradise Cove to join two kayaks and a few guys trolling around. Tried calling the kayaks, neither had radios. I think both had Outbacks. Close enough to talk to one kayak, he was catching zero, the other yak had a few small ones
After about one hour we nailed a 25 incher, an hour later a 37inch, about 20 pound fish. Great fishing, beer, and weather! Go get em! Ron
