Hi all,

Just a quick introduction here. I just joined NCKA because I'm planning on picking up a new 2019 Hobie Outback later this year or early 2019. I'm based out of San Ramon. I fish the lakes, rivers, bay, and surf, but have never been kayak fishing. Before I even head out to buy my Outback, I'll check out the many posts here to learn as much as I can about kayak fishing. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, so I'm hoping you could guide me along the way. Hope to meet many of you on the water, and join in on a few kayak hookups.

Best regards,
'A-Rod'

Welcome A-Rod!!
I’m starting to think seriously about an Outback as well...
Hopefully a used one, a year or two old.

Welcome.

That 2019 Outback in the picture above looks like one sweet ride!
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Welcome!  I'm in Danville.  Retired and fish mainly salt on week days.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

The red Outback above is sweet! I'm eyeing the Seagrass Green or Ivory Dune Outback. If I plan on parking the Outback inside my garage when not in use, how long can I expect it too last before I see any of the color fading? Is color fading less noticeable on certain colors; for example, the Ivory Dune vs. all the other Hobie colors?

@Fish 'n Brew, I like that you are nearby in Danville. Are there many others members from the Tri-Valley? I'm also glad you fish mainly salt, since that it is my main interest as well. When I have the Outback, I'm hoping we can get together for both fish and brews :-)

Damn, I went earlier this week to check it out and they didn't have any and the lady told me to come back in a couple of weeks....

I have a red Hobie that I bought new and a yellow one that I bought used (a couple years old at the time I got it). Both are stored out of the sun, and I’ve not noticed any color fading.

Btw, if you want to see the effects of UV on kayaks, there are a bunch of Hobies (and other brands) stored on the racks next to the A dock at the Santa Cruz harbor. Some of those have faded pretty bad. And the worst I’ve ever seen was a Hobie AI that was stored in a slip at the harbor, completely exposed to the sun. That one was supposed to be 4 years old, but looked 10x older.

My yellow Revo is an 09 and shows no signs of fading.  It has always been garaged when not on the water.  It does have stains but I think that's just part of the kayak fishing experience.

Welcome.  Those new outbacks do look really nice and set up for fisherman.  I currently own a paddle yak and am looking to get the outback too.  Been holding out for too long for a peddle yak.
