General Talk / Shimano Crucial Sale at Fisherman's Warehouse in SAC
« on: February 16, 2017, 12:51:56 PM »
For those who missed ISE - here is your chance to score on some beautiful rods. Keep in mind these are being discontinued but still come backed with a 1-year warranty.

Its buy 1 one get one for a penny. I ran over there on my lunch break to check out some finesse rods seen this deal and now have another dropshot/cranking rod in my arsenal.

They still had a few in their selection, if your not looking to spend 170 bucks partner up with somebody and split the cost.

I may head back and buy a punching rod  :smt044

General Talk / Dry clothing maintenance?
« on: February 06, 2017, 12:12:03 PM »
Do any of you do any routine maintenance on your dry gear (Pants/Jackets/Suits)? The reason I ask is a few months ago I picked up the Kokatat Hydrus 3L Tempest pants and realized the last couple of trips they don't repel water and booties are leaking.

I called Kokatat and long story short they said 25 bucks to have them repaired.

I informed them that I have taken care of them since day 1 - no detergents, cold water and hang dry immediately after washing them. In addition to that I always have my NRS shoes on when I'm wearing them so the booties never touch the ground.

He said that I had to buy DWR spray and dry them on low heat to bake in, as far as the leak I would have to send them in or I could see where the holes are and buy a repair kit.

Does anybody else have this problem, and more importantly perform maintenance on their dry gear this often?

General Talk / Home Defense - what do you use?
« on: November 21, 2016, 10:35:43 AM »
Just curious what people here use for home defense? Last night we had a random vehicle drive onto our property looking very suspicious and my girlfriend has always held a strict no-gun policy. Now that we live on 5 acres of land her views are slowly changing. We have security lights and in the process of installing cameras but in my opinion if somebody/something has the stones to drive/walk in a 100 yard drive way to our property they may want to leave with more than just visual layout of the land.

Its pretty rare somebody comes onto our land without our knowledge because its a 1-way in and out blocked off by fencing and canal and unfortunately right now we can't add a gate because the city uses are road to access the canal.

General Talk / Tiger Elite?
« on: October 21, 2016, 12:42:55 PM »
Ran over to fishermans warehouse at lunch and while looking around I noticed a (new?) model of the very popular Ugly Stik Tiger lite... the elite series. First thing that caught my eyes was the grip and guides. I felt a pretty noticeable difference in weight too. It's 20 dollars more than the non-Elite model. I was just curious if anybody has any experience with these?

General Fishing Tips / Trolling logic - Deep Six Diving Sinker
« on: September 23, 2016, 09:28:11 AM »
I hate to be technical but I am trying to understand how to achieve specific depths when using a Deep Six diver. I recall seeing a diagram i believe Alex drew but for the life of me I cant find it.

Does anybody have a chart, calculator, or possibly the mathematically formula used to achieve certain depths using a Deep Six diver?

For example:

If I want to fish 40' of water @ 1.5mph how much line would I need to let out? Granted I know there are other environmental factors included (tide/wind/current) in the example above just assume its perfect conditions all around.

I know the D6D is probably not the best to fine tune depths (Downrigger on its way) but for now just general information I would like to know.

Thanks in advance!

General Talk / Personal best!
« on: August 18, 2016, 12:02:11 AM »

I have caught some small bass in my day but this one by far takes the cake. He didn't even make it to the 5" mark on my measuring board so that kind of sums up how monstrous it is.

General Talk / Consumnes river?
« on: August 14, 2016, 09:54:17 AM »
I was told fishing is not allowed when the salmon are running? Is that true? I've only been there twice and my girlfriend wants to go someplace scenic for pictures. I figured if bring some bass gear and just kill time?

She took this last night at the port.

General Talk / Well $h*t.... Kayak fishing cancelled
« on: August 09, 2016, 09:11:04 AM »
Yesterday I get a text from the GF saying "hey lets go kayaking" I checked the tides and they were perfect so I get home start loading up... Go into the shed where all my fishing/kayaking accessories are and noticed the auto sensing light was on (strange) didn't care because I was going fishing. I start working on the work bench to get my plastics ready, and fishing hardware - turn around to grab my poles/mirage drive/PFD and hard baits and find this.

That my friend is a 12ft Burmese Python. It belongs to my GF's brother.

Needless to say I still was able to get all of my gear ready but plans fell short because the GF couldn't find the keys to the barn where her kayak is being stored.

I guess I'll be going tonight maybe.

PS: I called the brother tell him his anaconda got out of her cage and asked if I could get her back in the box (didn't need her knocking anything else over) he said it wasn't a good idea she hasn't eating in a while and her next feeding was this weekend.
