For Sale / WTB lowrance transducer for elite 4
« on: November 20, 2019, 11:32:03 AM »
I'm looking for an extra transducer for a Lowrance elite series. Mine is the elite 4 chirp but I'm sure any of them will work. Want to permanently strap one on a trolling motor. Thought I'd look here before buying a new one. Drop me a pm if you have one to unload.
Thanx

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / sharks off pacifica
« on: August 13, 2019, 04:02:45 AM »
This was posted on coastside.

Filmed dozens of White sharks the past 4 days in HMB and Pacifica. At one point I counted 7 together in Rockaway beach in shallow water. See youtube link with a video of some of the shots.

Hmmm, don't know how to copy the u tube video but there are several big boys cruising near shore. Be careful out there.

Craftsmen's Corner / Clear coating metal jigs
« on: May 31, 2018, 09:25:51 AM »
I'm planning on pouring some lead jigs and want to put a clear coat on them. I'm thinking two part epoxy over powder paint and some reflective tape. My question is. Have you any experience with specific products you would recommend for this? I'm looking for a finish like the high end Japenese flutter jigs etc have. Something that can be also used over hand painted finishes too. I'm looking for a very durable and clear non yellowing finish. Suggestions?
Thanx

Craftsmen's Corner / Depth finder batteries
« on: April 22, 2018, 09:18:35 AM »
So since I've gone with a color depth finder, my battery no longer lasts a day. They are older batteries, but I've always been able to get a day out of them, but now they crap out before a day's use. What batteries have you had good success with using on a color unit? I don't want to buy a battery that doesn't last a full day of fishing. Thanx

Looking to fish for stripers in the delta tomorrow. Haven't fished it in years. Looking for suggestions where to launch kayaks to be close to a good area to fish with the wife. No long paddles or strong currents. I know how just not where to try. Any info would be appreciated. Thanx

For Sale / wanted transducer for lowrance elite 4 chirp
« on: August 23, 2016, 09:22:46 AM »
I'm looking for an extra transducer to put on my aluminum boat so I can swap the unit between the yak and boat. I'm assuming one that'll fit the 5 or 7 will also work on the 4? Drop me a note if you got an extra lying around.

General Fishing Tips / not seeing fish on lowrance elite 4 chirp
« on: September 04, 2015, 11:49:47 PM »
Ok, so I bought one of the new lowrance elite 4 chirp depth finders and I have yet to see any fish on it. I just got back from the klamath and never saw one salmon on it!  :smt013 I was listening to other guys in other boats saying they were seeing them. I've used it in the ocean and gone over obvious schools of blacks that ALWAYS show on my humminbirds. I've used it in manual mode and never seen an "arch" and never see anything in fish id mode. It shows bait great, the bottom etc. but no fish. Their simulator shows them. Is there a setting I may not have set up right? Pilot error? Their manual is about the poorest written manual I've ever seen. I love the bomb proof connections on it. Humminbird could learn a thing or two there... I've gone through several HB units in the past with several having some sort of connection issues. That's why I went with Lorance, but it's not much good if I can't see fish on it.... :smt009 Anyone with a similar experience, or anyone got a suggest for a remedy?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Last weeks efforts for along shot WSB try. I gave a couple trys for a long shot, and came up with some halls instead. I also hooked one of those frigging angel sharks that instantly took me into one of my other lines. I was using three rods at the time I hooked it. Normally I just cut the leader and don't even deal with em, but with the other line wrapped up in the mess was coming from the opposite side. I was afraid a panic run might break a rod, so I opted to deal with it. O2B radios me and asks if I need a hand, then he comes back with "an angle shark? your on your own, don't want anything to do with that sh*t!"  :smt005 Thanks Bud  :smt002 So I get it on board and it's sitting there a few moments while I'm getting my line snips ready for some extensive line surgery, and all of a sudden it lashes out and clamps onto my knee! It doesn't move so I look at the situation and one of my hooks is buried through my waders. As it sits there like a pit bull with a throat grip I carefully start snipping every line I could find. I then pulled the hook out, all the while he's just clamped on my leg, but it's not getting through to me. My biggest concern was him ripping a gapping hole in my waders. By the time I cut all the lines he relaxed his grip, and I was able to carefully remove him with out any further damage. Then I flopped him back over the side. The waders faired pretty well considering. Through it all I forgot to take a pic...so "it didn't happen"  :smt002 After that we continued to drift back in with the tide. Listening to tule elk bugle in the background and watching the finder just cloud up with bait. We had a very peaceful drift back. I managed two 30" hails that day, and then I went again a couple days later and landed one more. The freezer  is well stocked now. Here's a couple pics of the consolation prizes. Day 1, day two.

Hobie Kayaks / klunking drive
« on: July 01, 2015, 09:55:58 AM »
I remember reading a post a while ago about a notorious "klunk" that develops i the drive system after some time, but never saw a solution posted. Well both my drives have it and it's annoying to say the least. It happens as you are peddling under normal pressure. You even feel it through your feet, but I have not been able figure out what to replace?  I replaced several parts on my first drive, and now my second one is starting to do it also... :smt012 I replaced the big part the the cables attach to, the little wheel on the top and played with chain tensions, checked the fin shafts for tightness, lubed the shaft, replaced the shaft, to no avail. Anyone have this problem and then figure out how to fix it? Very frustrating. Any intel would be greatly appreciated. It only does it while under load.
