General Fishing Tips / Halibut in Monterrey Bay?

Any tips for finding butts if any in monterey/delmonte area ? rigs, bait, lure? should I use a spreader and a dodger? Do they like gel scents?

Biggest macs I've ever seen past the MB old harbor bell buoy and my first ever Starry near the coast guard jetty.

I've never seen Starry and probably wont see one again for a while, but an greatly apriciated and unexpected end to a skunk out day

I've just gotten in to yak fishing and I'm concerned that I cant find any places close to shore. I can't get too far out there because I don't have a wet-suit. Recently, i hit up the Edward F. Ricketts SMCA but didn't see much. Should I stick around and keep looking? Do inshore honey holes exist? What should I look for sight/fishfinder?

Or do I suck it up and go off shore?
