Saw this ad on Craigslist with no email address.  I spoke to this guy name Al and he lives in Fremont.  It's 3pm and he's only gonna be home in a couple of hours.  If you're interested, give him a call right now at 510 792 2399 or his cell 510 364 7492.  I asked him why so cheap because they usually go for 1500 new and he said he had it for a while and it's just sitting outside....Just be careful.

Hi Starlifter,

Hobie Mirage drives are $500. new, not 1500.   Maybe that's what you meant.

If it's in good shape and hopefully not "hot", it could still a good deal.   I would test it on the water first though.

Hi Hobiesport

Let me know where you can find one new for $500 and I might just buy two of them.

Hi Willie,

Here's the Hobie Mirage at Kayakfishingstuff.com:

http://kayakfishingstuff.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MirageDrive&Category_Code=Hobie-Accessories

I bought my Hobie Sport and other gear from them.  Good company, good prices, good customer service, and another good kayak fishing forum.

What kind of Hobie do you have?   Where to you fish?

I think starlifter must be talking about the entire yak, which would be around $1500.  The Mirage Drive itself doesn't cost that much comparatively, but the term refers to the actual drive unit, not the entire kayak.  Who's on first?  :smt002

Hi Matt

I thought he was selling the whole kayak which is why I questioned the price.  Did anyone on the board got any more info?  I don't have a Hobie yet but I do have a OK scupper which is more than enough for me.  However, I have this persistent shoulder pain for quite some time now  so I might just get a Hobie Revo or Adventure and start pedaling.  I started kayak fishing the ocean this year with the NCKA crew but I fish pretty much anywhere in the bay area.

Sometimes you stumble across killer deals.  I once bought a fully rigged mirage tandem for $400.  At the time, that amounted to a discount of about 1400.  It wasn't hot - the seller was just really cool, and lived a little out of the way.

It was gone the next day.   :smt009 But I remember when I spoke to the person on the phone that he's including the seat and it also comes with the rudder so he must be selling the whole thing.

$250 for a full equipped mirage, even if it is pre-retro kit with a leak in the drive well, is a steal.

The automatic Kayak Finder linked to Craigslist that Bill so kindly set up is here great.   (Thanks again Bill!).  The day after he set it up I found a Palm brand splash suit (not a real dry suit) in perfect condition for $20.. I fits perfectly too.  It was just a nice couple doing a moving sale.   Like you say, you never know.   The problem is, Bill's Kayak Finder can be dangerously addictive. :smt002   You have been warned.  I'm glad I don't need any more equipment!
