I bought a used one on Ebay and it ended up being dead. The seller refunded my money but it time to send it back. I ended up buying a new one. If they die you cannot service them yourself they must be sent in to the company. If you buy a used one make sure you know the age and use history.

Eric,
In all the years of diving I've had 2 encounters and one was by duffys reef, and the other was at Gitchell creek.
Your fishing right in the middle of those 2 points.
I attach my unit to my seat and run the cable through the scupper hole at that point.
Only been shocked once no biggy.
Fishing in current snagged the cable on the drop once.
Just turned it off and unhooked and turned it back on, once again no biggy.
Charge is good for about 6-7 hours,
Recharge that nite for the next day.
How much $$$ have you spent on insurance that you have never used in your life?
I'm glad I got mine. Use it everytime on the kayak, but have did some free diving without it.

Anyone have experience with the Scuba 7 model?
If I'm reading the info correctly, it has a separate electrode and antenna. It appears that the electrode mounted near the front suppers and the antenna trailing out the rear suppers would give a larger field of protection vs the Freedom 7 which only trails out the rear scupper. If this is correct, it may be better suited for kayak use and 360 degree protection.

I think if you are trolling, the electrical field is the same on both devices (elliptical parallel toward the surface).  However, if you are mooching/drifting, it appears to me that the Freedom 7 electrical field is deeper (perpendicular to the surface), mainly due to the weight of the trailing antenna.  Dont take my opinion as science though, the below is what they published:

https://sharkshield.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/14000076316-what-is-the-difference-between-the-freedom7-and-scuba7-

Watch and form your on conclusion on electrical field coverage.  Maybe the Freedom+Surf is better for kayak?  Maybe not (sand drag, etc).

Well, I've done it now!
After speaking with Amanda Wilson at Shark Shield this afternoon, I asked her to send me a unit. We discussed what is readily available and decided the Freedom 7 was the best option. I sure hope this is what all the reviews say it is.
Will post a review after I receive and get a chance to use it.

I am stoked for you as a fellow shark shield owner.  I have the freedom 7.  Enjoy the peace and tranquility... :smt006

I use mine all the time. It definitely helps psychologically and the evidence is there for it working if you ever have a shark encounter.

I really want to see what one of these looks like opened up. Really feel like ppl are getting bamboozled for the price of these things. It’s gotta be like low tech hertz experiment kind of stuff...

Informative video. Apparently the Shark Shield even stops or deters breaching GWS.

After speaking to Amanda,
Received my Shark Shield yesterday.
Excited to have it on the water.
Will try to post a review,
But,
If it does what it says,
I'll be lucky to see it actually work.

$500 over an ~3 year product lifetime. Sounds like an affordable insurance policy to me. I think I have myself convinced that these units are worth having. I've yet to have a GWS encounter but I've only been on the open ocean about six times in my yak.

I did get that chance once, and it was (aside from the scary part) one of the coolest things I've seen from a kayak. The shark lit up like a tuna, it looked like it was made from polished nickel as it swam away, so cool.

Sorry, for the naïve question, but have you wondered if having an activated shield, possibly scares away the fish you're trying to catch ?
