For Sale / Cannon Mini-Troll Downriggers
« on: July 09, 2020, 03:04:07 PM »
I have 2 Cannon Mini-Troll Downriggers. Selling both for $80 or each for $50. Brand new still in the box. Shoot me a PM if you’re interested.

Two of us left Alameda Grand Street Ramp at 0430. Smooth ride on the bay and outside the gate. Dropped in outside Rocky Point in 65’ h20 and started trolling towards Dux. Rounded the buoy and started trolling back to Rocky Point.

Landed our first fish around 0930 outside Rocky Point in 66’ h20 35’ OTW clear FBR with anchovie. Worked that same area for our limit. We picked up our last fish around 1330. All fish came on the same setup.

Arrived back to a cluster f**k mess at the ramp. The wait to get to the ramp was about 45 minutes. There were always some people thinks they just motor up and try to sneak in rather then wait their turn.

Two of us left Alameda around 0500. Beautiful ride all the way to the fishing ground. We were fishing about 2 1/2 miles outside of Rocky Point in 80’ h2o. We could have been done around 0930 but those fish were feisty and they kept spitting the hook. Finally we were able to land the devil fish around 1215. RSK Charteruse 35’ OTW, Clear FBR 45’ OTW. Finally the wife is asking for some smoke salmon. These bad boys are chilling in a chill brine for the smoker tomorrow. Here are some pictures.

Long day so here’s a short report.

Location: Rocky Point

Depth: 50’ h2o, 35 otw

Hardware: Threw the whole Tackle Box at them today and they picked Brad Cut Plug (Cop Car & Watermelon).

We were done around 1450 and it was pretty nasty out there when we left.

5
Launched at Pillar Point around 0600 and shortly made our way to Point Pedro. Line in the water around 0700 just passed Point Pedro in 85’ h2o. We started marking bait about 1/2 mile passed the point and we immediately started hooking up. 2 limits around 0830. Clear FBR/Chovie and Charteruse RSK/Chovie 55’ OTW. I was surprised that there were only 2 trailers in the lot. Weather man was way off. According to my plotter, it is only 2 miles from the beach where we caught those fish yesterday. I don’t know if there’s a spot that you can launch a kayak close to Pedro Point.

Recreational Canary Rockfish, Black Rockfish and Lingcod Bag Limit Increases Effective June 1, 2019

MAY 21, 2019
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has announced increases to the recreational canary rockfish (Sebastes pinniger), black rockfish (S. melanops) and lingcod (Ophiodon elongatus) daily limits.

Within the statewide Rockfish Cabezon Greenlings Complex daily bag limit of 10 fish, the sub-bag limit for canary rockfish will increase from two to three fish, and the sub-bag limit for black rockfish will increase from three to four fish. The daily bag limit for lingcod will increase from one to two fish for areas south of 40°10’ N. lat (near Cape Mendocino), returning the statewide bag limit for lingcod to two fish. The changes are effective 12:01 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019.

Limited retention of canary rockfish in California’s recreational fishery began in 2017 as a result of the stock being declared rebuilt. Because retention of canary rockfish had been prohibited in recreational fisheries off California for more than a decade, incremental increases to the daily sub-bag limit are being implemented to balance fishing opportunity while keeping catch within harvest limits.

Less optimistic stock assessment outcomes for black rockfish in 2015 and lingcod in 2017 resulted in a reduction to both the harvest limits and bag limits for these species. A review of the most recent recreational catch information showed that less catch for these species occurred during 2017 and 2018 than anticipated. This prompted the current increase in the statewide black rockfish sub-bag limit and lingcod bag limit south of Cape Mendocino to better achieve allowable harvest.

Catches of several important groundfish species, including canary and black rockfish, are monitored weekly to ensure harvest limits are not exceeded.

Pursuant to California Code of Regulations Title 14, section 27.20(e), CDFW has the authority to make in-season modifications to the recreational fishery, including adjustments to bag and sub-bag limits.

For more information regarding groundfish regulations, management and fish identification tools, please visit the CDFW Marine Region Groundfish webpage.

Left San Leandro around 0430 and launched out of CG ramp around 0730. My wife finally joined me out on the water for the first time.
We left the ramp at 0745 destined for Soldiers Club. Line in at 0800 and immediately hooked up. We were done by 0900 and it would be a lot earlier if it wasn't for the darn sea lion. Lost about 4 fish to the damm thing. Fish at 36.41 121.50 Purple Haze Hotchie and green rsk behind the 6" sling blade in 110' h2o, 65' OTW. Proud of the wife for toughing it out. Here are some pics.

Finally was able to get a day off from work. Two of us left Alameda Grand Street ramp around 8:00. Nice flat water on the bay all the way out the gate. Got to Pt. Bonita and it still have some rollers coming through and I couldn't see if there were breakers in the channel because of the fog. Decided to head out of the shipping channel to play it safe.
Set pots in 125' of h2o and let it soaked for 1 1/2 hours, pulled 7 pots for 2 nice limits.

Left Alameda Grand Street ramp around 0530 destined for DR1. Beautiful ride on the bay and outside the gate. At about 0730 started to mark some good bait about 1 1/2 mile south of the can so I decided to dropped in. In about 15 minutes I got the first take down that spit the hook after 5 minutes. 85' h2o, 45 OTW, green RSK with chovie. Worked the same area for 3 more hook up and landed 2. Done at 0915 and back at the ramp at 1030. Here are some pics
