Kayak Fly Fishing / Re: Good day at SWS
« on: September 07, 2021, 06:27:46 PM »
Thanks for sharing pindo. We have a house at TC and walk to Stillwater North. One of the great sadnesses of this last almost decade was the slow collapse, which I first noticed when the kelp disappeared.  Then the abs starved and even tons of snails perished.  Well, we were just up there for the long weekend and I saw big pockets of kelp reappearing! I crawled around on the rocks and didn't see a single urchin. My kids reported seeing more than a dozen starfish. I don't know if the kelp was giant or bull, but it was fantastic to see.

Great and touching report. I agree that in the first photo it looks like a huge pair of kind eyes are looking down on you. Your sharing inspires me to keep being the best dad I can be. Thank you!

Wilderness Systems / Re: Ordered a helix motor from ACK

I hope they step up. Last fall I bought a WS Kayak Krate from Austin K.  It didn't come with the insert pouches, despite the video on Austin site showing it did. Naturally I thought they were missing, so I inquired. It took multiple times restarting  email threads, somehow with two different employees, to learn they are no longer included. Which is fine, but wasted a bunch of my time and energy. Luckily, I was just about to make two larger purchased and chose to spend elsewhere. Good luck.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Changes at Timber Cove?
« on: June 18, 2019, 10:20:28 PM »
When I drove by two weeks ago I noticed the fence surrounding the trailers was dismantled and at least one trailer was gone, but I thought it was likely repair related. I'm sure the lodge, especially since the upmarket renovation, has pushed to have them removed. For most of the locals, it's just part of the community as far as I've heard.

That's awesome. I hope to be at Timber Cove that day, hope to see others out there. I started to read the justification for increase last night, but fell asleep.

That's a great idea and generous offer!

Godspeed Gummy! So sorry. Dogs (fuzzy kids) and kids are the only ones that can still make me cry. Take care of yourself.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Malone trailer- Megawings or bunks
« on: May 18, 2019, 04:36:43 PM »
Yes Exhibita, it went to a NCKA brother.  I just got back from picking it up, but gave him the money earlier in the week. The trailers don't seem popular on here, but they go fast when up for sale.  You can borrow it anytime, like for longer trips.

I'm leaning towards the Malone bunks, as they look to give more support.  The OK Trident seems pretty stoutly built, so I will try giving it a go leaving it on the trailer.

Wow Dan! That looks amazing. Well done. Looking at your rig makes me think the bunks are better for longer term storage. I assume you can leave yours with all that support.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Malone trailer- Megawings or bunks
« on: May 17, 2019, 07:15:18 PM »
Trailer folk, I just bought a used Malone Microsport and it has the sup pads. What are people's experience with either Megawings or 7' bunks.  I'm hoping to keep my Trident 15 on it at times. Would either be okay to store the yak on? I've read through storage posts and articles. As well as Malone posts. There seem to be lots of different opinions.

Thanks and be safe, Wolf

Beautiful catch!

JP, adjacent to the pier the whole waterfront is large boulders Best launch is around the small peninsula to the south. At Cal Adventures East Dock and Windsurf Launch Dock. There is even a hose by the sailboat hoist to wash off after. You could also launch at the boat launch (near K dock?) In the actual Marina.

Be safe!- Shan

PS: leave nothing valuable in your car. Auto burglary is prolific!

Tax dollars going to a great cause!  I don't think the ambulance company will be so gracious for the long ride to the hospital.

I agree with you Eric. They will regulate at some point.  I wonder how he got separated from his kayak? It is a lot harder to spot a person submerged in the drink. He got lucky and will probably still end up with a hefty bill.

Great account! You won't be forgetting that fish soon. And neither will the 28 incher, luckiest day if his life! He's probably telling that story right now.

Right on Baitman! I'm healing from a motorcycle accident and  keep reminding myself of Hunter S Thompson's quote: "
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
