I snell a hook with a couple inches to a slip knot for a stinger hook.  Just leave them in the tackle tray and if I desire retribution against tail-nibblers I just cinch it up on the jig hook and hook the stinger hook through the tail - or hook a squid body on the main hook and the stinger in the squid head.

IME they usually only make a difference on dinky fish.

Here is a link to how to rig swimbaits with stingers. Anybody ever use Big Hammers? Any better than other fish traps?

look under the trolling for trout section:

And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

Thanks, David.  Here's the direct link to the step-by-step instructions.  It's the way to go with swimbaits over 7".

Big Hammers are as good as any other brand, but I don't like the square fins.  I personally like swimbaits with the smaller round fins.  They swim better when jigged slow.

Thanks ChuckE,
I'd guess a mixture of square and round tails would be good depending on how fast you were retrieving. Subtle vs. gonzo techniques. I think that this link actually shows an easier way to do it. You use the hook as a needle:

David... you're right it's easier since no needle is needed.  With that method, you can pre-tie several trap hook with spectra and just add them as needed.
