SAGE 7100-4, 7wt rod 10’ 0”. It’s a great rod. I have caught 18 pound Salmon with it. It cast great and has stiff action. Sent it back this morning to Sage in Washington for repair.

Cool seat.  I'm looking for something like that.   :smt001

To answer your question...let me preface it by saying I don't fly fish or fish in a river.  I use heavier gear out on the ocean so I'm never outmatched.  30lb test for salmon or 65lb braid for bottom fishing with a Penn fathom reel on a fast action medium power rod.  And if it's a really big fish that I want to control I drag it with my 2hp outboard (or pedal) till its tired out.  :smt003

So maybe I'm not the best person to answer your question.  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Fishing the Delta for striper is just around the corner. The fall run is a blast. I only fly fish a little for stripers cause its hard for me to cast sitting down. Sherman Island is a good place to fish for them. A falling tide works best in my opinion. I normally cast lipless crank baits just in front of the tulies. The water is only 2 to 6 feet deep in this area. There are several large flats the hold fish. Fish from the Sherman Island ramp down to Sacramento point on the river side and around that corner as well. A little trick I use on the low tide on a sand bar let the lure hit the bottom and then retrieve along the bottom. The striper can be there pulling out the freshwater clams.

Good luck

Really interested in fishing over in the Central Coast area, since itÂ’s fairly close to Clovis. Trying to locate a good area to fish for rockfish and lingcod. I am interested in hooking up with others in the area that know what to do and what to expect.
