Greetings. Any tips for good fishing spots near the bay during the cold months? Nov - Feb? I’m a teacher so I have some weekdays off during these months to test out winter kayak fishing. I normally have to wait til April for Rock Fish season to start. Thanks

There's several freshwater . . .well, let's say, not saltwater, lakes scattered around the bay that teem with fishy varietals. Some of these gems are so skanky you'll encounter abnormal wildlife on the shorelines so bring binoculars, a wad of dollar bills and a firearm in case critters get hostile.

Delta would be my choice, though I'd still carry a bay area wildlife kit.

Good luck!!

Get up to 10 posts. After that, the member’s fishing reports forum will become visible.  Go back over the reports over the last few years paying attention to the months that you are asking about. You will find a lot to work with.

Lot of local lakes that's stocked with trout.

The Delta is great for stripers, sturgeon, LM/SM bass and other fish.

You can also go crabbing till end of June, catch some anchovy, squid, mackarel, jack smelt, sand dabs, etc. (yes, just no RF).

If you've never been kayak fishing out in the ocean, please be safe and read safety tips and join a hookup.

San Luis Reservoir is great right now (11/20/2017).  Fish the SE corner near the dam.  Enter from Basalt Rd. and take the first dirt road to the right after you pay to get in.  This takes you to the shore line - paddle toward the dam.  Use Gamakatsu - Round 211 jig heads, 1/8oz hook size 1.,  with 2 1/2 inch Gulp minnows in Smelt color.  Sit still, sink um down to the bottom and bring um up 6 inches (be patient), some days  a retrieve faster than the wind is blowing you also works.  Cast toward the dam let it bottom out and slowly jig it back.  Usual day is 6-8 shakers and 4-6 keeper size.  Troll an umbrella rig late day.
Watching the river and itching for salt.

Only once? That must be some sort of record, first time was the day after i bought my first kayak and i hosed it down the night before and it had a few drops of water inside the hatch. Second time was 10-15 grains of sand in my cup holder. Third time was mud from the river a few miles down the road smeared on the side that i didn't notice.
