So compared to monkeys how do they taste?

Have seen a lot of morays down south too. Wonder if those are worth shooting?

They taste great...but...for the size of the fish the meat yield is pretty low compared to a Ling or a Monkey because even though they are looong they are pretty slender...can see some food prep pics here...

I've taken two in the past 5 years but have passed on the last several I have seen...

They do mate for life and are not as abundant as the other fish we can harvest...not saying I won't take another one in the future, and definitely won't criticize anyone who does take them, but right now I am more jazzed on just checking them out.  :smt001

Sincerely,

Jim
Awesome Jim! There is a power I feel when I gain the trust of a wild animal, they look you in the eye and respond to your actions with intelligence and curiosity. I think its pretty cool. I hope we will be seeing more of the happy couple. I won't criticize anyone for taking one either, but its good to point out that they are not common and mate for life so when you kill one, your dooming a whole family of them. Cant wait to see the babies!

Well said.     Just outside of Mendocino, there was a lot of angst many years ago over a "pet"  wolf eel.   For years the divers would feed / pet it... it got huge.   Then one day an out of town diver ( unknowing about it) speared it.
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.

And that's why I leave them be.  I shot one last year and it was flipping crazy and would not die.  He so wanted to bite me so next time I see one I will take a picture also.
