Title: Lowrance Rockfish Classic - Camping Thread
Post by: Rider on October 03, 2014, 01:00:29 PM
If you have sites reserved post up your site # and if you have room for another vehicle.

If you want to share a site post it up here.

I'm in site 38 (no room for another vehicle) and WINGSHOOTER is in site 24

Just spoke to Tess at anchor bay camp and they have 3 sites left. If you think you might make this tourney call and reserve your site.

So we need to see if anyone has any room at their site to help out a couple people so they are not having to stay at other campgrounds.

If you have any space please post up.

Thanks!

This is a great campground but limited space wise. They also take reservations 1 year out like Albion. So make sure to reserve for next year while at the tourney, I plan to reserve for next year on that Thursday. If we all reserve early we can get the whole entire campground for next year... party on!  :smt001

Woodside and Salt Point state park campgrounds are I believe are a bit closer than OC and possibly discounted in November.

Also here is a link to Anchor Bay businesses type directory with food, rental cottages, rental houses, local inn, etc. This might help someone maybe looking for non-camping accommodations or just some local Thai food or Coffee while your there.

Just got off the phone with reservations, they say it is open unless it floods ( which has only happened once or twice )

Go to GUALALA POINT CAMPGROUND
Reservations (707) 565-2267 or
www.sonomacountyparks.org/camping

If you click on check availability and then on a site it gives you a picture and dimensions of the site.

Fisheducator, if you like your breaks and lunch, take either 20 into Ft Bragg or the long way down to 101-healdsburg-gurneville,hwy 1 and back up. MTN View Road heading west will fry your brakes. at least it did mine the one time I took it :(

Depends on the vehicle also, I was being good and still had both feet on the brakes at Hwy 1...was told to not set the parking brake at the KOA campground or they would warp... BTY, this was a 74" Chevy 3/4 ton, non diesel

Post by: RacinRob on November 03, 2014, 10:26:18 PM
It's not about being good, or going slow. It is how you actually drive the vehicle and actually use the brakes. Low gear, do NOT drag the brake at all. Brake hard, fast and almost come to stop, then release and let compression slow you till you need to brake hard again. As you let compression take over the brakes will cool enough to work at the next hard braking. Until you actually learn to do it and practice you will overheat brakes on hills. I tow a 10,000 pound trailer behind my gas powered 13,000 lb motorhome. Never had braking problems even down the steepest of hills. Yes the trailer has brakes, but done wrong they won't help out either.

They don't take reservations within 10 days of your visit. You can call them to see if they have sites, but the last time I looked there was only 2 sites booked and they have at least one first come first serve campsite, I also did not want to pay the reservation fee. I will be there Fri. night if someone wants to share a site to keep costs down.

Hey everybody,

I'm headed up to my house at Timber Cove on Thursday afternoon. I will stay until Sunday afternoon. Anybody that wants to crash at my house is welcome. There is plenty of floor space for sleeping bags and lots of cool spots for a tent outside in the redwoods. PM me for directions before I'm out of cell range on Thursday.

Anchor Bay is about 30 min. north.

Sincerely,

Don
