We lucked out and got some nice weather for a change! Wind was howling in the early afternoon but died down eventually. Needless to say, we got enough windows of opportunity to fish away. Got my share of "catching" over the weekend. Caught and released some 13 to 15 inch LMB casting a sebile magic swimmer along the weed line. Also finally caught and released my first top water lure (weedless frog) LMB right in the thick of the weed bed! :kick
Got really excited about the top water action that I stuck with the frog. Right before sunset, I was casting the frog at a fishy spot....I must have made 20 casts at the same lane and finally got a HE-UGE LMB to bust out of the weed bed and break my line and take the one and only weedless lure I had :smt013. Chad witnessed the ordeal and estimated the bass to be easily over 5 pounds. I was heartbroken but at the same time really into the "froggin" thing! Can't wait to go out and do it all over again!
Also caught 2 catfish from the shore using frozen chovies. One was donated for dinner and the other was released to fight another day.
THANK YOU to all that showed up! Really happy to have spent the weekend with a brave group of kayak anglers!
Here's Ben getting ready to fish and my lucky frog lure...that I eventually lost to a big one!

Right on Mooch! Glad you guys toughed it out. Worked all weekend and thought about you guys all 2 days. Glad the weather gods looked out on you.

Sorry you lost your best friend "Frogy" :smt003 Hopefully someone here will catch that fish and return your Froggy to you. Glad that you're yak fishing again. Thanks for the report and pictures Mooch.
-
Mooch,
Glad you caught a lot of bass, and frog fishing has to be one of the best ways to get em. Were you using braided line? Wished I could have made it.
-
Dude, that frogs an albino! Those must be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo rare. Glad you had a good time Joel!
-
Thanks for the report and congrats on all the bass n cats you scored! :smt001
Can't wait to hear how everybody else did. jim

Bummer on the lost froggie, but it made for a great story! Sounds like a great time. Nice one. :smt001
-
Joel, if you had been reeling the frog in with your right hand it never would have broken off.
Glad you into them.
-
Joel, I'm so happy to read that you got some good therapeutic time at Del Valle my brother :D
I haven't taken my yak on FW, but looking to do so when rockfishing season ends. Miss catching lmb on topwater! I wish that bucketmouth didn't break you, but must have been awesome to witness that slam :)
Thanks for sharing brother Mooch, hope to see you soon :D

Wow was that the most fun I've had while getting skunked? :smt005 Got there late around 830AM, launched and saw the water temp was 70-72 degrees and knew the dam was the best shot at catching something, but decided to stay south of the narrows and spend my time chillin and getting skunked. Really fun catching up with old friends. Hope the water temp drops before 10/8 or the HOW could be really tough fishing. Joel and Adam are looking good.

The Adam/Dan hug was yet another Great Moment in NCKA History.
I trolled all over that lake, tried everything I brought, and no fish... but paddling back to camp from near the dam by noonlight with not a soul in sight was sooo soothing.

What an awesome time I had at Lake Del Valle. Thanks a bunch Mooch for setting
all this up for all of us to enjoy. I got to the lake really late as I had to finish some
jobs at work. The traffic at Pleasanton didn't help one bit to get there early enough to have somewhat of a day light left. Good thing I had goggled the campsite before heading over. That was my first time pedaling in the dark. A little
scary for I did not want to turn my light on knowing I had no busyness of being in the lake that late. Well, I had no choice being that I had a tray of pansit that
needs to be eaten up. When I finally made it to the site, everyone was already
having dinner around the grill and good thing I made it just in time. There was lots
of food that everybody brought to share.
The next day we were able to fish. Unfortunately, the bite was off being that water was warm. I only managed to catch a couple of bluegills on the yak and a
catfish that I caught on shore at night while enjoying the fire by the lake. Thanks
Sara for setting the hook for me.

What a GREAT weekend!! Not a lot of fish, but a lot of good times. I got on a couple of 5 pound cats saturday night after dark which was nice, but being out there while the sun goes down, flat water, not a sound but nature, that was priceless. Got to see some bobcats drinking water in midday, a bunch of deer, the warm, sweet embrace of two eagles making love mid air!! What more could anyone ask for? :smt003 Oh and heres the pic that MOOCH refuses to see, the catfish that was bigger than his!! You cant run and hide now MOOCH!! Thanks everyone for a great weekend. :smt044 :smt044

Glad to have made it there for a few hours Friday and meet some new faces. Cool dudes! I got another chance to try out my sail going against the wind. It was tough to tack but I made it to hetch hetchy against a pretty stiff wind. I was planning to get a free ride coming back but would you believe that wind just died when I was about to go? Mooch, thanks for setting this up and the parking pass. I had a relaxing time and hopefully next time my schedule will allow me to camp.

Thanks Mooch for setting this up. Me & Adam had a enjoying Saturaday - would of liked to spend the night but Adam had his garden project - he's on vacation this whole week to finish the project. The food was excellent and the company of NCKA members was memorable - Sorry for not bringing the tomato salad but will do it again soon just for you.

This was a really fun weekend! As opposed to my usual performance I actually caught a SMB!!(I think it was a small...) With the Yak loaded down to leave on the way out no less!! Lots of great people to hang with, however missed the rest of you AHULLS that didn't make it. Some things I learned this weekend:
-I do not like Thermarest mats AT ALL :smt011
-Sometimes even live bait won't work
-When Mooch is hungry better feed him fast or he whines like my 4yrold :smt005
I have some pics to post so stay tuned......-Sara
PS-Lord Knows I'm Coming Home to you Joel :smt044

The cries of "I'm hu-u-u-u--u-u-u-n-g-r-y" are still echoing thru the valley...

That is why my dogs were done precisely at 1 PM. :smt005

Some pictures I took with my digicam that I dared to pack in on the yak.

And more...

The end
Sara: my lessons learned:
1. Secure the front hatch cover before launching
2. Don't get hung up on fishing lines when launching
3. Don't ever buy another kayak without a rudder.

Scott, molly is big now! Has she mellowed out at all, or still a bundle of furry friendly energy?
looks like an awesome time.

The good news is that she is perfectly behaved in the yak. on walks, and around the house The bad news is that she is still overly social and sometimes jumps on people. Since that is the only she does wrong, we are hoping she will grow out of it. :smt005
