Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / First Spearfishing Hunt with a Kayak
« on: June 22, 2021, 04:21:47 PM »
Haven't posted on here for a while so I thought I'd share a somewhat recent dive trip my friends and I went on. We launched out of SWS in the early AM then made our way to one of the kelp beds outside the cove. There, we came across the usual critters. I shot a few rockfish and managed to find a decent 20-21" cabezon in the area; We didn't see any legal ling's or anything special--the area was largely all rockfish and baitfish. The ride back to the launch point was tough -- after several hours of diving, we were pretty sapped-out... so paddling back was a challenge--especially with our kayaks a little heavier with fish loaded onboard and swells/wind that picked up in the afternoon. We eventually made it back to shore safely, thankfully, with everyone happy with the experience.

Cheers

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / 3/31 Shore Dive Monterey Area
« on: March 30, 2018, 06:31:47 PM »
Just wanna check-in to see if anyone is diving out in the Monterey area this Saturday. My dive buddy had to cancel but I still want to head out because of the amazing weather/conditions forecast for the weekend. If you don't mind a tag-along, I'd love to hook-up.

Thanks

Thought some of you guys might be interested, but on a supply run at Fisherman's Warehouse in San Jose, they have these large octopus soft baits available. Looks like something good lings or halibut.

Anyone plan on Diving-for-Dungies over at Doran Beach 11/4? It's going to be a circus but I'm down to clown around.

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / New to Spearfishing
« on: July 21, 2017, 03:18:30 PM »

So I heard about this spearfishing thing and decided it was something I wanted to get into. I did some research, learned what I could in terms of hardware and decided to pick-up some standard issue equipment to start out with. I still need to pick up a few more things such as gloves, socks, long fins, but I at least got the ball rolling. Currently learning everything I can about this sport as well as conditioning myself at the pool. Hopefully I'll get to post pictures from my upcoming trips, soon -- for now, a snapshot of my new threads and stoner device.

Cheers

Craftsmen's Corner / Rockfish Flies
« on: October 27, 2016, 10:58:06 PM »
So I bought myself a fly tying vise. I came across a few guys that make flies on Youtube and decided it was something I wanted to try out.

I created these flies specifically for rockfish. It's going to be a while before I can head out on the water to see if they actually work so I'll be making others that will target striped bass and surf perch till that next run comes around.
