They are still out there at Seacliff and New Brighton. Juvenile sharks are migrating north due to warming ocean temperatures.

I ride my bike to work on the levee every day. I'll keep an eye out in case it turns up again.

This was just posted on Facebook:

"Is anyone missing a kayak? A passerby said he saw this being stolen last night and dragged under the Riverside Ave bridge. Same guy was waking off with a violin that was also stolen and left near the kayak. We’ve called it in to SCPD."

I made a separate post about it.

Looks a lot like it. I'll post a response to his thread.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Padding for Hullavator?

Loch Lomond allows outside boats if you store them for the season. They decontaminate them with a steam wash. Decon is around 25, and storage is 250. If you want to remove your boat, you have to schedule another decon when you bring it back.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm planning on going that route if there are no pre-made ones on the market.

The boat is a 17 foot sit-inside kayak, and it already had some oil canning. Between the length of the boat and the thinner plastic, it was getting distorted in the rack. I just use the rack to transport it to Loch Lomond, so it doesn't stay long in the rack. I'm not too worried about this boat, but I don't want it to happen with a new boat in the future.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Padding for Hullavator?

The hard plastic pieces in the cradles of the Hullavator are denting my boat. Does anyone know of an aftermarket foam piece that fits in the cradles? I can cut some to size and bungee them on, but I would prefer to buy something already put together. Thanks!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Saddles for roof racks

Regarding factory bars on the new Outbacks, there is a way to remove the cross bars and install Yakima towers and bars. Very secure. My main issue is the shorter distance between the front and rear bars on the newer Subarus.

Curious to actually see the Hullivator on a car. Anybody in Santa Cruz have them on a car that I can look at?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I wasn't able to access the forum before I left on a road trip, so I just used the Makos with a front tiedown. Some flexing, but I went freeway speed for 5 hours with no problem.

I was thinking about the Hullivators, but a Thule guy didn't think they would be any better than the Makos. Guess I'll take a look at them.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Saddles for roof racks
« on: August 03, 2017, 06:50:08 PM »
I'm looking for feedback on saddles for a roof rack. I have used the Mako saddles for many years on a Subaru Outback and have always liked them. My 2014 Outback has crossbars that are much closer together than my old 2000 Outback. With the flexible Mako saddles, this causes the kayak to bounce up and down quite a bit, especially on rough roads or at freeway speeds. I'm looking to get a non-flexible saddle to use instead of the Mako. I have seen a few, but any feedback would be appreciated.
