So what's more important? Good rod or good reel?

do you currently have a rig?  If so what is it.

20 year old Zebco Quantum reel with Med/Hvy Kunnan rod and a Cabelas prestige II 5 wt fly rod. So definitely room to upgrade.

Well How much money do you want to spend??

You can get a decent setup for under 100 bucks.

Spending between $100 and $200 for a set up would be fine. Just didn't want to get into $400+ set ups.

I'm sure there will be may opinions, but most will be more informed than mine. Want to start fishing more and wanted to get some recommendations on set-ups. I don't want to start off with the cheap cheap because I always spend more $$ on upgrading, but don't want to break the bank because I have too many hobbies as it is. What would you suggest for the following.

Spinning reels, don't have the skills to baitcast.
-trout
- bass
- Steelhead
- Salmon

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: VHF Radio?
« on: February 10, 2015, 10:05:17 AM »
The Rino is on the FRS (family radio service) band; basically a walkie-talkie.  No good to call for help unless you have others watching that channel.  VHF is monitored by USCG.

Thanks for the clarification

There's a kick butt deal on that VHF radio right now.

Thanks for the heads up, just pulled the trigger.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / VHF Radio?
« on: February 09, 2015, 07:33:33 PM »
I was planning on picking up a VHF Radio and wanted to know if I have a Garmin Rino if the emergency radio on it will serve the same purpose. It would be nice not to have to buy something else if what I have would work for Ocean diving. If not any recommendations of VHF Radios.

Would this be a good all around reel for someone who doesn't fish a ton. My bro is looking for real and this seems like a good deal.

What rod would you pair with.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / FF Help

looking for FF & GPS to put on zodiac and kayak. Mostly using for diving. Anyone know the differences between the humminbird 598 and 698 ci hd si combo? I'm pretty intrigued by the side image technology. Was also considering Lowrance 5 elite hdi chirp combo.

Just FYI - CL add say "If you're only interested in the Kayak i'll sell it alone for $100.00"

I think you missed a zero.
