EDIT: Report.

Well I woke up early and was all set to get out of the house at to bullhead flat by 630. I walked out to my truck and it was much colder than I thought! Since I didn’t get a reply to my hookup I didn’t expect anyone to meet me so I decided to hang out with my dogs for a little bit and have a second cup of coffee which would put me arriving closer to 715.

As I’m driving down N San Pedro I see a blue hobie on a rack going the other way. Shoot, I’m the jerk who was late to my own hookup  :smt009 I pull up to the parking lot and the blue hobie has done a u turn and joined me. It was “shake” who had seen my post and decided to join me.

As were outside the closed gate a park employee sees us and stops to say hi. He lets us know the gates don’t open till 8 (I know this and wheel right around the gate usually) but says that he’ll open It up for us! So he opened the gates and unlocked the bathroom for us!

We get on the water around 8 I would guess. The wind and the tide were going the same way making some decent waves, but it wasn’t too bad. We head toward the pump house and travel about a mile. It was foggy, cold, choppy, and windy so we decided that it was about far enough and anchored up about 50 yards from each other.

In about 15 minutes I swing on a bite and bring in a small leopard shark.

Maybe 15 minutes later shake is hooked up and has a hell of a fight on his hands with a monster sturgeon. It was landed and released but too big to measure. My honest guess was around 8 feet. Insane fish. Hopefully shake posts his report later.

After assisting with that fish we get back to outlet spot and set up again. I swing and miss on a bite. Then I swing and hook up with an old newspaper (seriously!)

Maybe 30 minutes back into fishing and shake gets another sturgeon on! This was a good slot fish around 50 inches which he kept.

After helping land that one I set back up. Another short time goes by and I get a really soft nibble. I swing and it doesn’t move! Then drag starts peeling and I’m fighting a sturgeon  :smt007 It’s a good fight and I safely get him netted after a few minutes. He comes in right at 41 inches, my first ever sturgeon!!

Man what a day, 3 sturgeon in about 3 hours. I can’t wait to go again!
Anyone going? This is sort of a feeler hookup. I’ve only ever fished for sturgeon out of china camp (bullhead flat) but have never caught one. So I’m planning on going fishing tomorrow either 1: bullhead flat, 2: montezuma slough, or 3:Sherman island.

If anyone is going to spot 2 or 3 and want to show me around that would be awesome. Otherwise I plan on being at bullhead flat at 630 and head toward the pump house.
