Did well with a Wholly Bugger and a Prince Nymph dropper at Courtright Lake for Rainbow trout. Caught 5 with several other hits in two hours on September 1st.  Going to Edison Lake September 4th and try similar tactics. I am hoping to hookup with a large Brown trout.

Nice haul there. Was up there a month ago. No fish but a great view.

Haven’t fished up there in years, great camp sites. Friend and I used to go up there just before they would close the camp site in the winter and snow conditions. Great times. Nice fish.

Went to Edison on Tuesday, Sept 4th and caught one German Brown, 18”, had two others on the line. Got blown off the lake around 11:30 am, with heavy wind and high wave action. Hard hail and unbelievable rain hit around 1:30, as I attempted to fish the dam that protected my Kayak from the intense wind and wave action across the lake. When lightning flashed and immediate thunder sounded, I exited the lake asap. I sat in the truck for 45 minutes with no weather change, cold hard rain.

Usually, Thundershowers last 15-30 minutes and then clear up. This one continued intensely splattering the lake and countryside. I left Edison Lake at 2:50 with hard intense rain still showering the lake and mountainside.

While fishing and peddling my Hobie Outback toward the dam from Mono Creek at the east end of Edison Lake, intense wind came up and developed 18”-2’ waves that made it extremely difficult and worrisome. I had a very difficult time getting back to the dam. I never worried about drowning, but not getting back entered my mind. If I stopped peddling for ANY period of time, I was blown back and lost a lot of my forward progress. I do not believe I could have paddled a kayak against the wind and waves. I learned a valuable lesson about high Sierra lakes extreme weather changes and how it will impact your condition and abilities.

Edison was beautiful and calm at 9:35 am when I put in at the dam. I peddled slowly and fished down the south side and arriving at Mono Creek about 10:45 am, a slow easy pace. Then the weather changed suddenly and quickly, with Thunderstorm clouds developing over the mountain range and dam. A breeze swept across the lake that developed in to powerful windy conditions that blew directly eastward toward Mono Creek.  It was difficult to move forward against the heavy wind and small choppy waves that grew to 18”- 2Â’ wave action. I peddled steadily and strongly as I witness little progress forward as I constantly scanned the bank for forward progress.

Be prepared for weather changes with options well thought out ahead of time. Additional dry clothes in a dry bag should be available. I had a kayak top in my front hatch that did no good keeping wave splash and wind from soaking my long sleeve rash shirt, especially when the Hail and rain hit hard. Lesson learned from not adjusting to present conditions as they developed. I have no pictures of the bad conditions as I focused on peddling in to the waves to keep stable and upright on the water.

The winds usually start up around ten and can get downright nasty. We were remote camping at Courtright a month ago and when it was time to leave on Sunday we were on the water at 9 to beat the wind. Nice brown there.

Just made a kayak stern light pole from a solar light, 3/4” pvc and some reflective tape. It will connect to a milk crate on the back of my Hobie Outback. It cost $14 to complete.

Do you have a bow line for your OB?  Any cordage will work really,  I have a 3/8" nylon (Boat rope) about 20' long I keep on my OB for towing someone, or for tying up to trees, bush, dock.  Would you have been able to make the bank and walk your OB back along the bank?

ThatÂ’s a great idea, just for towing or tying off to objects.  It would be difficult to walk the bank at Edison Lake, itÂ’s very tough terrain in neopreme waders with beach shoes over the neopreme wader socks.

awesome to see reports of our local lakes :) I'm heading up to Edison in a few weeks, hopefully the mosquito will be gone lol The wind and weather up that high is so unpredictable. Always have a backup plan :)

The only lake I haven't fish yet is Mammoth Pool.

I had great luck trolling a 3 inch rapala lure but unfortunately lost that lure at wishon earlier this season :( I have to see about replacing it lol

See you on the water sometime :) With the drop in weather, I'll be making my way to San Luis Reservior eventually to target monster striper  :smt007 :smt007

I was caught in high wind at the Forebay a few years back. I was at the dam which is about 1 miles to the boat launch, out of no where the wind came up and was gusting at 30+ mph, took me an hour of unstop peddling to get back. Not fun at all lol

I don't have that issue now ;)

It was higher wave action at Edison and I was seriously worried about getting back. It took me 2-hours of hard peddling. Believe me, I struggled through the wind and wave action.
