I guess a better question might have been " Where can one go to not see carp?"  Los Banos Wildlife refuge used to hold monster carp.  We used to bow fish them from the banks and in wading in the ponds.  Boy did the water explode when my fish arrow hit home!

Pretty much *all* bodies of water in Sacramento have large carp. Just caught 9 pounder the other night on...of all things....a parachute Adams dry fly in a muddy slough. It was a blast! The sloughs around sac are a good bet, but hard to sight fish if that's what you're after.

Half of the Lake Chabot in Vallejo is covered with Carps in Summer time.

Ya man basically every lake here is covered. They are not commonly targeted here in cali. I've seen some true giants in New Melones and even the Deep Water Channel here in sacramento 20+ lbs for sure. But I think up to 10 lbs you could probably find anywhere.

Pull up shallow around the grass, toss out a bread small and small hook. Fish for largemouth while you wait. I haven't been to clear lake this year but they do have monster carp. Berryessa has an too as well as little lake Hennessey in Napa county. Good luck.

I asked an older guy how he prepares them and he said "boil the piss out of em." He made fish cakes with shredded potatoes, said they weren't great but cheap and filling.

Boiled fish...hmmm...I'm sure one of the closet chefs here could "masterchef" them.  Hope the world never comes down to carp cakes and crow burgers.  Stingray and carp tacos...I know there is a whole culture of carp slayers, and why wouldn't they brawl, they are a fish with hook in its suction cup face.... :smt006

Steele park at Berryessa has been slam full of them the last little while. Launch off the side of the road before you get to the launch and get next to the weeds at the back of the cove.

Canned sweet corn works great as well.  I think people are right, I've seen carp in most places I've fished from small ponds, creeks, to lakes.  Also, use small hooks so they don't feel it when they pick up the bait.

I used to target them when bass fishing got slow...lots of fun but never kept any, I heard they're nasty.   :smt005

I’ll only eat carp as lemon grass fish cake, gotta scrape the meat off, too many bones. Rather eat catfish over carp any day... they’re everywhere... ppl just don’t target them. Corn meal, Honey, red food dye... and little bit of. hot water make a dough and just ball it up on the hook...

I caught a few fly fishing for Steelhead on the Russian that were in the 20 lbs range. Both were foul hooked in the back.
Great fight on a 7wt, these fish have a lot of strength .

This makes me laugh :).

I don't really think they are poor tasting fish. They are just super bony. I'd guess if you bled them and iced them right after catching they'd be pretty good if you're willing to put in the work.
