The bait shop there knows what you need. The skippers wife is behind the counter half the time, all you need to do is find her.  Time it right and she will even show you how to tie knots. My point is if you want to know where to find the dabs, she knows. They have good inventory and prices too. I would call ahead and see when she's there. The Eel man is around too, if you see him, he could sum it up in a couple words.

I'm going to have to visit the HMB bait shop again in that case. When I stopped by the two younger-ish guys behind the counter just said: "sorry, people don't target those around here". I was buying stuff, so hopefully they weren't just blowing me off.

I do get a general sense that sanddab fishing is not as good up here as it can be in the Monterey Bay.
Wanted to buy: Stealth ProFisha 575 or 525

The area just in front of the "Jaws" was a hotspot for halibut during the salmon season.  People would troll the bottom and hook onto halibut.  We were too busy slaying salmon to care about halibut.

Huli Cat did its first exploratory petrale trip yesterday. Report up on facebook.

Everyone caught lots of sanddabs, and a few petrale. They targeted 70-90 fathoms which would be 420'.  Probably a bit deep to be any fun actually.

They've been catching sanddabs around 220', which would be maybe 4 miles out? who knows.  Huli cat is 12 miles out.  I was crabbing around 200 off pescadero on my boat but that's nearly 12 miles out from the harbor.

Thanks for the report and good luck on your adventures. I bought some Rockfish from Dave in his little tiny boat a couple of years ago. He did say that he goes out 3 miles.
