General Talk / SALMON!!!
« on: March 12, 2012, 11:31:32 AM »
Ive been a long time member from Santa Barbara. WE moved to SF in Jan and Im super stoked about this years forecast, see link. I will be chasing salmon every weekend in April and May and would be stoked to troll with anyone up for paddling 6+ miles. Obviously, Moss Landing and the Monterey Bay are great early season salmon grounds but what about around Half Moon Bay - Linda Mar? Can anyone recommend certain areas?? thanks!! PM me if you prefer, Adam

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Mag Bay Baja Trip
« on: November 27, 2007, 04:10:35 PM »
Hi, my wife and I are leaving for Baja on Dec 26. We plan to cross the border at TJ and spend the night in San Quintin. From there, we're going to Abreojos & then to Lopez Mateos or possibly Poza Grande. We are traveling LIGHT, literally, in a small Honda Civic, a tandem kayak and camping stuff. Im fluent in Spanish and Ive been to Baja numerous times since age 15 but I have to say, this is the first time that I'll be nervous crossing the border. If youd like to caravan or hook up fishing and/or camping, shoot me an email.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Moss Landing?
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:49:25 AM »
From all the reports of Coastside salmon at Soquel Hole, I bet there is some salmon at Moss Landing as both spots share similiar topography: both have canyons, both elevate rapidly into 120 - 150 ft waters. Seems like Moss would be holding a monster or two but there doesnt seem to be anyone looking there. Sounds pretty tempting to me. Maybe early next week?

Recipes / Broiled Cod in Miso Sauce
« on: April 14, 2006, 07:59:59 AM »
We tried this first at our local Sushi joint. It was damn good there. then I saw the same dish on Martha Stewart. I saw it again on the Memoirs of a Geisha DVD and after that we knew we had to make it at home.

6 T white Miso
1/3 C sugar
1/4 C mirin
1/4 C sake
4-6 oz cod or bass fillets (Nobu uses Black cod but we used White Sea Bass which was damn fine!)

marinate fish then broil 3 mins per side

simple and VERY good.

General Fishing Tips / Trolling rods for salmon
« on: January 16, 2006, 03:25:08 PM »
Might be in the market for a new trolling rod for salmon. Im using a 7 ft Fenwick right now made of "Fenglass," lure weight 1 - 6 oz, line rating 30 - 50 pounds. It works great, just want to go as light as possible but without stressing the rod (I plan to use 2 - 2.5 cannonballs) and with good lure action.

Whats the lightest rod your using while trolling big cannonballs? Any problems?

thanks, Adam

Ill be camping at Sunset and launching at Moss Tues & Wed at dawn. Reports indicate the salmon are around the Soquel Hole/ Three Trees, thats a long ass paddle from Moss but Ive got to get out there. Planning on trolling the canyon edges towards Soquel Hole.

Company welcome, Adam

isnt anybody up there targeting the salmon off Pescadero? the fleet is getting limits everyday... and driving me nuts. ive considered driving up there & launching around pigeon pt. lokks like it would be a bit of a paddle but on the right day with minimal winds, im sure a kayaker could get limits.
