Didnt see one of these catergories yet! :smt006...... Here are some footballs I shot..Andy

Nice stringer Andy. I haven't ever fished or speared down in your area. I need to get down there.
Your good enough now to start shooting them in the head. Quit shooting holes in the fillets!!
-
:smt005... I told myself the same thing when I was filleting them! Head shots for now on! :salut:

New Zealand yellowtail ;
I shot it in 1983 off the Three Kings Islands far out to sea off the top of the country.
It was the biggest yellowtail I have ever seen....and became just part of the catch on the grouper boat I was working on.

nice fish, any idea what it weighed? Did you have a reel/floatline or did you shortline it?

Back then we didn't have the float lines.
We just horsed em in and took our chances.
I had a Prodanovich gun which was very hard to get and valueable so that fact alone ment I would never let go.
I found that no fish could pull me for long and not wear himself out.[ no, never went for bluefin tuna!]
If it ever came to it...I would jettison my weight belt and really fight em floating but it never did. A full 7mm wetsuit on me w/out weights is really hard to submerge for long.
That thing really was big and must've weight 65+ lbs.

Well nice fish, I'd love a shot at a forked tail of that magnitude. Still have that Prodanovich? I've got one that I don't use, just a wall hanger.

swam out from shore on the east side of Oahu a couple months back.
Shot this Whiptail Uhu with my Riffe. Came in at 12.6lbs
-
After spearfsihing in norcal for several months and not seeing any lings, I finally got two nice keepers around 30 inches on the same day.
-
On my next dive a few weeks later up north, I was lucky enough to spear two more keeper lings around 30 inches!
Side note, I'm looking for a used banks board. How many fishing pictures do I need to share in order to be allowed to post in the classifieds? Tia!
