I think I got the best waterproof unit Lowrance ever made.  :smt005
It has survived total submerged for 2 times during some crazy surf launch/landing.

Alex, I have a Lowrance hook 4 I'm not using that you can borrow till you get yours fixed. I'm leaving from San Jose airport tomorrow morning if you want to meet there, or you could come by Santa Cruz tonight....
Thanks, man! I’ll be fine for Saturday. The sonar still works fine, and I have other means to navigate it needed (iPhone GPS, compass, handheld GPS).

Having the GPS on my FF is more of a convenience, and I can live without it for now.

Mine has been great for the last couple years. It’s gotten completely drenched with saltwater (and rinsed with a hose) MANY times, but never fully submerged. Not sure what’s up... I’m gonna all Lowrance in a little bit for some troubleshooting, then send it in if needed (after I use it on Saturday).

Hmm... I tried to update it yesterday evening but it didnÂ’t work. I downloaded the update file, put it on a memory card, put the cards in the slot, and turned the head unit on. It just turned on like usual and didnÂ’t do any kind of updating... GPS still not working.

IÂ’ll contact Lowrance today. Looks like IÂ’ll be fishing w/o GPS again on saturday...

Did u Try a different memory card? This happend to me too.
I’ll give that a try. I’m not much of a techy guy, but I think I did it right. I used the memory card from my GoPro. Not sure if it matters or not, but I’m using a MacBook laptop, not a PC like Lowrance shows in their video tutorial thing.

Sometimes there is a limit to the size of the card. The large high speed video or photo cards might be too advanced to be compatible.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

OK... I tried with a simple little 4GB card from my old point and shoot camera, and I'm pretty sure I got the software updated successfully. I also did a "hard reset" by holding the + and - buttons while turning the unit on.

It still isn't locking on to satellites.

Been on hold with Lowrance for the last 30+ minutes... Thinking I'll just shoot them a friendly email while I listen to this wonderful hold music... :smt013

Ok... So I'm sending it back to Lawrence after Saturday. Since it's outside of the warrantee period, I have to give them $119 for a new Hook 5 head unit. Oh well... Life goes on... They also offered to replace it with a Hook 7 for $66, but I actually don't WANT the bigger unit. The 5 is about as bulky as I want to go on my kayak.
