How do you shore fly fish for perch in the surf?  Do you want to be near the bottom?
What kind of flies and fly lines do you use?  Do you strip in or just let it circulate in the ebbs and surges?  Do you have to cast beyond the turbulent zone into clearer water 100' out?
I fly fish steelhead, river salmon,  and trout, but have not tried the salt.
My last kayak fishing trip the water was so clear that I could see schools of blacks below me.  With a conventional rod, when  I dropped my line down both my rockfish fly hooks
would  would have a fish on before I could finish dropping down.  I assume a leadcore head with a #4 fly would work well on fly gear.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Mark is the man when comes to the surf in these parts, he even catches steelies in the surf. Go through his logs and you will get a good idea where to look for fish, the key is to keep moving until you find some willing to play. I've been out a few times the last couple years but haven't had a stellar day. I've done better with a trout rod and a grub.

I also agree that there has been a decline in surf perch fishery up here. Not even close to what it use to be when I was kid.

Check out danblanton.com and zenflyfishing.com, both are excellent resources .

Mark is a good friend who has taught me a lot.  I owe him for all the patients he has had with me.  I need to contact him and see what is going on and get some fishing in.

And he like me, covers a ton of water.  I am constantly moving when casting.
