All...very good clubs Joel, but you have to cast a flyline to be in them.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

Uncle Rickey, I've "heaved" a fly one or twice in my lifetime :smt002

I wasn't  talking about picking up a fly; I was talking about casting them.

For south bay folks, there's the San Jose Flycasters....details and their newsletters in PDF can be found on their web site:

http://www.flycasters.org/

Members have access to classes on casting, fly tying, and a pile of other things (sometimes for a small additional cost above/beyond the basic dues).

I also drown worms, toss kastmasters, drop shot, and fish a variety of other methods...whatever it takes to get a fish on the end of my line.  :smt001

The Flycasters folks taught me a bunch of good stuff which lead to me catching this just after Thanksgiving last year:

That's a 25" native steelhead caught on the Rogue River while drifting flies with a buddy.  It's the best of 3 fish I landed that day...we passed a couple drift boats with folks spin casting and I had more fish on flies than they did combined (and I'm not very good...it was just a tough day).

I prefer fly fishing out of my kayak but I think I'm one of the few in the club that use a kayak.  I was the fishmaster for one of the club's trips last year to an area with 3 private ponds.  Lots of float tubes showed up but only one kayak...fortunately, I got the best fish of the trip (at least of the folks that kept track and told me how they did)...18 1/2 inch largemouth caught mid-afternoon:

If you haven't tried fly fishing yet, you can get in on casting lessons from the Flycasters in the near future....the annual casting classes are about to start and cover all levels from beginner to shooting head lines, etc.  See their web site for more details.
