Contest heavily favors local participants.  We got 4th place, and we're told by one of the judges that some at the judging table were of the mindset that "no way in hell out of towners are taking the win"

Did they change the way the voting was done?  We paid to be taste testers/judges a couple years ago and they gave me a list of booths to go to at the last minute.  Had no clue where people were from and the judges were randomly sent around and could have been from anywhere. 

So if that changed then maybe the judging could have been off.  Unless there is some voter fraud going on. 

Hey DG, thanks for asking.  Last year we got awarded 1st place, then we're told there had been a miscount,  apparently getting the most 1st place votes wasn't enough to secure the 1st place spot, and the guys that sponsored the event  (who are awesome ) ended up with 1st. This year, we heard from 2 of the judges that the judges from our group  (not the public) decided they were not voting for out of towners.

Wow that sucks.  But on the bright side I live in town and will make Abalone waffles next year. If I win then you were right.  [emoji1]

Dude that might be a good recipe...do a spin on chicken and waffles. Chicken fried abs with Waffles......I think I'm going to try that one day soon. 

And no I'm not stealing your idea you just inspired me. Since you wanted to make waffles out of abs.......yuck!
