General Talk / Re: Interest in Kayak Rentals?
« on: April 20, 2022, 07:34:23 PM »

My interest in the topic was more so to understand why this wasn't more of a common practice. Before I bought my kayak and moved into a house, I lived in pretty tight quarters (also know quite a few friends in a similar scenario) that does not allow me to own a kayak and I seriously looked into if there was an option to rent a Hobie but didn't find any promising needs. After getting my kayak I fell in love with the sport and my wife and I go almost every weekend, but if I didn't own a house I would have never been able to get exposed to the sport and also this awesome community. In the Bay Area, space feels like a limiting factor for a lot of people and I wonder if there are other like me (1.5 years ago) who would fall in love with the sport but just cant access it due to storage space issues.

There are actually a few kayak dealers that will allow you to rent Hobies for a few hours at their store or even take away with you (though leaving a hefty deposit in case of damages).  What's nice is that if you decide to buy a new kayak, the rental fee is usually discounted from the purchase.

Sorry for the dirty pics.  My yard is a mess right now with construction.
In the middle of rewiring and shortening the pole for the motor.  Will be buttoned up and cleaned for the next owner.

Kayak is still here.  I’ll wait a few more days before I try Facebook/Craigslist/social media to sell the kayak.

For Sale / SOLD- 2017 Hobie Outback - $1400
« on: April 05, 2022, 07:51:25 PM »
I got this awhile back to shuttle my kids around inside harbors and flat calm water.

What’s the deal?  Why so cheap?

When I got this, it was missing the drive and vantage seat.  No accessories at all.  I’ve added a watersnake trolling motor where the drive would normally go, and just use a pad for a seat.  The brackets for the vantage seat is there, I just don’t use it.  Thought about doing the Hobie seat mod but never got around to it. It’s pre-wired for a Garmin FF but that thing died last year.  But the wiring and transducer is still on the boat.  Will throw in a Hobie paddle.

Don’t use it anymore.  Kids getting bigger and not interested on being on the water.  Wanting to free up space before my next house project.

Pick up in El Cerrito.  Will post pictures tomorrow.

I like Gatherer Outfitters out of Berkeley.  Smaller lesser known than the other charters but the service is top notch.

This early in the season, you want to go deep inside the bay.  Even try going down to Millerton.  Finding bait balls will be the ticket.  Wherever there in bait, you’ll find the fish.

There’s 2-3 resident sea lions than know how to get in cages and break even snares.  Come prepared.

It might be a cellphone kind of promo. I don't have a smartphone, tried to get the discounts online, didn't work. I could get 10% off, either/or, but not both.

used my computer as well.  ordered 2.

Why not just run an orbital with 80/100 grit after the holes are drilled.  Smooth it out.
