NCKA's Derby Schedule to Appear in the July Issue of Paddler Magazine!!!

Paddler Magazine called to request a schedule and brief write-up of our upcoming derbies.  Here's what I emailed them...

NCKA Halfmoon Bay Kayak Fishing Derby
Pillar Point Harbor, Halfmoon Bay, CA
Organizer: NorCal Kayak Anglers
Sponsors: California Canoe & Kayak, Hobie
Targetted Fish: Rockfish, Lingcod, Salmon, Halibut

In the winter, Pillar Point is home for the famous
Maverick's Big Surf Contest, but in the summer, the
area offers good conditions and great fishing for
salmon, halibut, and rock fish.  A whopping 29 pound
lingcod took the top cash prize last year's derby.

Elk Kayak Fishing Derby
Elk, CA
Organizers: Great White Kayak Co./NorCal Kayak Anglers
Targetted Fish:  Lingcod, Rockfish

The Greenwood Community Center, located on the scenic
Mendocino Coast, is the setting for this big fish derby
which includes a weekend of camping, a buffet dinner,
a raffle, and evening entertainment.  Top prizes last
year was a new kayak and a beautiful custom built
fishing rod. This event is the brainchild of Sean
White, owner of the Great White Kayak Company.

Mendo Bendo Kayak Fishing Derby
Lake Mendocino, CA
Organizers: Great White Kayak Co./NorCal Kayak Anglers
Targetted Fish: Striped Bass

Lake Mendocino is home for schools of big rod bending
stripers which are often seen engaging in top water
feeding frenzies called "striper boils".  This event
is highlighted by a weekend of camping, a potluck
dinner, and fish fry.

Bay Area Paddlefest & Kayak Fishing Derby
Coyote Point Park, San Mateo, CA
Organizers: NorCal Kayak Anglers/Bay Area Paddlefest

The annual Bay Area Paddlefest is California's biggest
kayak and canoe festival.  This year the event will
feature a kayak fishing expo and derby.  It will be
the ideal place to learn about the growing sport of
kayak fishing and also test paddle the lastest fishing
kayaks.  This event promises to be the largest ever
kayak fishing derby with kayak manufacturers
contributing some big prizes.

Anybody have any good high-res photos from our past derbies?

Paddler Magazine requested them.
I think we should all be flattered by the recognition from this prominent paddle sports magazine.

wouldn't that be mooch's specialty?  come on mooch, bust 'em out!  I wish I had some good action one's from elk but I was peddaling back then.   JTF..
