I wish I could go.  You may try fishing out of Sea Ranch some time.  It's an amazing place.  I've stayed there and fished from those beaches.  Some biggies in that area probably because of low fishing pressure. Good luck and looking forward to the report!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: striper lures
« on: November 28, 2020, 10:22:23 AM »
In the delta i've had success using shallow diving crank baits that have a rattle or using a rattle-trap.  The biggest stripers I've caught not trolling but drifting a live minnow or blue gill.  Buy some minnows (big ones) or catch some blue gills when you first get there with a small or piece of a redworm on a small trout hook (no weight or bobber necessary).  Just fish near the boat ramp or somewhere close to shore and put them in a bucket.  Drop the live fish down to the bottom with some kind of bottom rig works best.  I've seen others using those umbrella swimbaits rigs too.

Safety First / Cosumnes River Preserve shooting incident kayakers beware
« on: November 17, 2020, 12:06:15 PM »
Hey y'all.  I want to hear your thoughts about an ongoing dangerous situation at the Cosumnes River Preserve.  I was out there fishing Sunday, November 15 on the Cosumnes River.  I saw a couple girls kayaking and going east on the Cosumnes River past the railroad tracks.  I knew there was a hunter back there because I could periodically hear gun shots and knew from experience they hunt back there.  After a few minutes I heard a couple shots...a bit later a guy in a flat bottom aluminum boat zooms past me without slowing...a few minutes later the two girls paddle back from the same direction.  I asked the girls if the hunter slowed down for them and they told me he actually shot in the sky above them and buck shot fell down around them!  They said he then zoomed past them without slowing.   This kind of thing has happened before.  You can actually watch MooMoo's video of when he went to the Cosumnes River Preserve and had a similar situation, minus the warning shots I think.  Thanks and be careful about where you go in the Preserve.  This time of year there are aggressive duck hunters east of the railroad tracks back in the sloughs.

General Talk / Shop local

In June I wanted to upgrade my Hobie Revolution 13 with turbo fins and rudder.  I ordered online from Austin Canoe and Kayak (ACK).  I will never again order from ACK and here is why.  I waited and waited and things were not being shipped.  The excuse I received from ACK is that things at Hobie were shut down and they weren't getting inventory.  That's a good excuse so I kept waiting.  I called again a few weeks ago and ACK said they had my fins and would send them.  I got the delivery the other day and was so excited only to be disappointed again.  In the package was only one turbo fin, nothing else.  So now I have to return the darn thing and hopefully get my money back.  But that's only part of the story.  The more shameful part of this whole thing is that I ordered parts from Austin, Texas that were probably created in Oceanside, California.  This means, a truck was used to take the part(s) from California, to Texas, and then back to California (my house) and now back again to Texas.  The impacts of this kind of business to the environment is avoidable and unnecessary.  The worst part is I could have helped out a local business by giving them my business.  My apologies to both the Headwaters Kayak Store, and California Canoe and Kayak (CCK).  I saw on another thread that Headwaters went out of business and I feel bad about that.

General Fishing Tips / Re: How do you catch bait in the port?
« on: January 21, 2020, 09:07:44 AM »
I use a telescopic crappie pole (no reel) with a tiny hook and a small piece of redworm.  Works like a charm.  Since there is not a reel on the crappie rod I use (Black Widow), on the tip I tie about 6 ft of line to a tiny hook or to make it easier I just use the pre-tied trout hooks size 12 I think it is.  All you do is dangle the worm in some water near the shore and wait for the bite.  Remember to bring a bucket or something to keep them in.

Yeah i know...the picture doesn't do it justice.  This was a fat one.  I ran a calculation i found off a salmon fishing website to estimate based off length and girth.  Came to what i think it likely weighed.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Storage of my new Revo 13
« on: July 31, 2018, 07:57:07 AM »
Here is a picture of how I had it.  I already took off the kayak rack and flipped it over and now it is resting upside down on some round metal crossbars with pool noodles...that are on top of my popup camper in the garage.  The bars are about 4-5 feet apart and support the kayak evenly.  I feel good about it now even though the way I had it was similar to using the cradles.

Awesome!  I'm a fan.  Watched all your videos on youtube.

Hobie Kayaks / Storage of my new Revo 13
« on: July 26, 2018, 03:14:16 PM »
I just got a new Revolution 13.  What's a better storage method?  I have metal cross bars on my camper which lives in my garage.  Would it be better to store it upside down on those metal cross bars or right side up on a kayak roof rack attached to those same cross bars?  Thanks
