General Talk / Silver and Coin dealers in the Sac-Placerville area?
« on: January 06, 2021, 09:02:35 AM »
I have a collection of silver coins, some are pretty valuable, most are coins that are "well used" and worth not much more than scrap value.
Does anyone have any experiences selling, both good and bad that you would want to share?
Looking for a dealer who will be fair, I just don't want to feel like I got ripped off.
Thanks,
Jeff

General Talk / Water proof cellphone cases
« on: November 07, 2018, 11:00:47 AM »
I have been leery of taking my phone out on the kayak, I have arthritis in my hands and do not want to drop it in the water.
What have you used and what is your experiance with them?
I have looked at a few on Amazon, and cost is not an issue, I just want to find one that works.
The one floating one I looked at did not have any reveiws which I thought was odd...

Thanks,
Jeff

General Talk / Fishing Programs for kids...
« on: February 28, 2018, 02:57:18 PM »
Yesterday a friend of mine who has a trash/hauling business gave me about 15 rods and a box full of misc tackle (pre-tied leaders, sinkers and a couple of reels) from the clean out jobs he has done.
There is the possibility of more coming my way too!

I would like to donate to a kids fishing program but don't know where to start looking , I know there is a couple out there, but when I heard about them, well I just don't remember...  :smt003 My CRS ( can't remember $hit...) is acting up...  :smt003
I thought some of you could point me in the right direction.

Most of the stuff is pretty old, but for a kid starting out would be perfect.

I need to clean them up a little, organize the tackle, and find a new home for them.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

General Talk / Stohlquist Fisherman PFD question
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:17:33 AM »
I was looking at one on Amazon and was wondering how the sizes run on these?
I am 5'10" 225, and not sure if I need the Lg/XL or the universal size?

Being short and wide makes some sizes a little harder to figure out...  :smt003

Thanks,
Jeff

For Sale / Hobie Outback for sale - pics added
« on: March 31, 2011, 06:09:32 PM »
I have for sale a orange Hobie Outback, Eagle Cuda 242 FF, Scotty downrigger and rod holder and a wheelez cart.
I believe it is a 08, (was purchased in July of 08) and I will have to find the paperwork to verify.
It is in good shape, a few scratches from beaching it, and it has no leaks.
I just do not have the time, and not enough room in the garage.
$1650.00 with 2 rigger weights and PFD
Located in Cameron Park, please pm your # if interested.
I will be home all weekend if you want to check it out

I made my 1st trip of the year to Amador and my 1st time with my kayak.
The launch area is horrible.  The water level is so low...
I found fish everywhere, but they are hitting real light.
The 1st 45 minutes or so, I probably got hit 9 or 10 times.
F-5 BBR in brook trout pattern, produced strikes, but no fish.
Switched again to a F-5 BBR in orange and white, and Bingo, fish in the net!
I got more strikes on that one too, and then I picked up the speed a little. In the next hour, 2 more in the net.
They were all close to the same size, right around 3 lbs. One was a little bigger, about 3 ½ lbs.
Let me tell you… This was the 1st time I have landed a trout of any size to speak of since I got my kayak, and it had me laughing.
WTF do I do now!  :smt044
I tried grabbing the line to unhook him, too much thrashing, I was afraid he would break off.  :smt003
Wait! There is a net on board, where the “@#%&” is it…    :smt044
Old and $hitty people like me should think ahead more is all I can say.
Sorry no pics, I am still nervous about taking a camera along, as I seem to have a bad habit of dropping things in the water...
Any way, some good experience on the yak today to boost my confidence.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Any advice on a FF and downrigger?
« on: July 31, 2008, 08:45:30 PM »
I was wondering about some advice on a FF and a downrigger for my Hobie.
I have been shopping around, and have my eyes on a Scotty 1073 lake troller.
I cant tell from the pictures or the descriptions I have read, but does anyone know if the lake troller has a counter on it?
I have not really seen anything other than the Scotty that would seem small enough.
Also I am considering an Eagle Cuda fish finder.
Any comments or advice would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
LD

General Talk / Finally...
« on: July 17, 2008, 02:37:17 PM »
Finally, I pulled the trigger… and bought my 1st kayak.
I had been looking to get one for some time, and had been shopping, and lurking in the background here on your site, trying to learn from all of your posts.
I had a couple sold before I could get there, or I would have had to drive 135 miles to pick one up in the Bay Area… and one day my wife just said, “Why don’t you just go buy a new one, one that you like…”  :smt007
Well I may be crazy, but I ain’t no fool.
I was down at Adventure Sports the next morning before they opened.
And walked out with a new Outback, before she could change her mind.  :smt003
I still need to add a few things, like a FF and down rigger, but I have had a chance to fish from it twice since I got it on Friday, and am loving it.
I look forward to meeting some of you some time soon, if you come up to the Crystal Basin to do some trout fishing, give me a holler, and maybe I can join you.
Thanks jeffrm20 for recomending this site from another board I frequent.
