The entire volunteer crew love putting on the derby each year. And, together with you we've raised thousands of dollars for the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project over the past eleven years. This is year #12 and it's the biggest and the BEST!

We hope you can make it to the derby again this year. Get your entry in quick, we are limiting to the first 300 entries due to space constrictions at the Portuguese Hall, and we WILL sell out this year! Entries close on February 8th! So, get on it!

Might try a little perching Friday. Break in between the storms. At least that is what the forecast is for now. Let me know Mr. Glad ta show you a few of the spots down this way !

It looks like there will be waves and weather, so plan accordingly.... Some of those big beaches in the center of Monterey Bay are actually doing well on the mid to klower tides, even with huge waves. Pacifico, PM me and I'll give you my best and most recent intel.

Tioga St kick off at pre dawn for an hour--if not fishy
then move north every hour or so spot to spot--good luck to all

Careful all. The is a pretty good swell period and the water was pretty surgy where I was south of Moss landing. There was some debri in the water. Pieces of wood that can catch you off guard and hurt.

Was fishing with my trusty grubs that didn't produce but one perch. I believe the perch are a little farther out but you have to be careful of the surging surf.

I think blood or pile worms will be the ticket or scent your grubs. I usually don't scent my grubs, but with the water so churned up and cloudy I think it will help.

A whole lot of nothing for the amount of fishing we did. Water was pretty rough and dirty. The water was more calm and clear the farther south it seemed. I didnt see many people with stringers at the Hall and everybody we talked to on the beaches hadnt had much luck either. Was talking with some people at lunch and they said they had seen somebody weigh in a 2&1/2 pounder but thats all i heard.

No, most exotic catch went to a shovel. Not a shovel-nosed guitarfish, but an actual shovel.... Chris Tran's perch was a lot bigger than it looks in that photo. It was 15.25" and 2#6oz.

I have not completed a report yet, still cleaning up after the huge derby. I'll post in a couple days, and we can also expect to see reports from Hurley Chronicles, FishSniffer and WON.
