And I've caught the madness.  I've had the madness for about four years now, pretty consistantly for the last four years, I've woke up, grabbed the paper and a cup of coffee and headed to the computer to check out whats going on with NCKA.  I like to think since I've never had a kayak before, and this is a kayak fishing web site, I'm NCKA's biggest fan.  I've posted comments here and there over the years, but nothing really to contribute to the site.  I felt like since I have never owned a yak and never fished with any of you, I kinda didnt have the right to.  Well, that all came to and end yesterday.  I bought ChadRock's Trident 15.  I've been coming up with excuses why I couldnt afford a yak for as long as I've been lurking here, always saying that I need to save the money, put more towards this bill, finish this project, ect.. Well, I was recently laid off from work and it kinda changed my perspective on things.  So here I am with my new Trident 15 and I couldnt be happier.  Today I went out to Del Valle for my maiden voyage.  It was a friggin wind tunnel out there but after four years of waiting I didnt care.  I paddled from the launch to the dam.  I saw a couple other kayakers out there, but they had their yaks beached and were fishing from the shore.  It was tough.  I pulled into a protected cove and practiced self rescue and got comfortable on the yak.  I'm super excited to have a yak now and I'm looking forward to getting out OTW with you guys.  I've always fished rivers and lakes for trout and catfish and whatnot, and I want to admit to guys that I'm a total newbie and dont know too much about the different rigs, tactics and things.  So I just want to let you all know in advance that I'm going to be asking some very basic questions quite often, after using the search function of course!  I'd like to thank everyone for providing me with the motivation to do this.  You guys are awesome and LeTsLeTtHeAdVeNTuReBeGiN!  Thanks again Chad for the awesome yak!

Welcome to the board and the MADNESS Jeff.  I think your truck is up-side-down but you got the yak up right  :smt003

Welcome, Jeff!  Sounds like you have a really well developed case of the Madness - 4 years of respectful observation, with a word now and then from the sideline.  You've got your yak now - you've validated your presence nicely.  I think what you've described - what you've done - is really the best kind of preparation, or indoctrination.  It's an ideal in many ways.  I look forward to your reports - congrats on that new yak.   :smt001

best move you could have made being laid off. I was in the same boat last year and NCKA was a great help/distraction. Great start with a solid boat and practicing self rescue. Now do yourself a favor and make it to yakhoppers tiki/delta event next month. Nothing better then a good hook up to really set the madness!

What an introduction.  4 years to get on the water, must be nice to finally make it.  Just to re-iterate your comments, everyone here is awesome and I too can't wait to get otw w/ them.

Looking forward to fishing with you Jeff. I'll share what little I know about fishing rigs and what not. Just ask away bro and answers will be coming.
Congrats on your new ride.

Wow, so much time invested in the site, and yet you just got a yak???  Wow ;)  you have some catching up to do!!!  You think you have the madness now???  Just you wait  :smt003  Since you have some free time, you should goto the FW Derby at Tiki Lagoon!  Wont find a better way to get acquainted with NCKA than a fun hookup!!!

Jeff,

Welcome to the Madness. After reading your post, you are already very mad with the fever.

Good job on practising self rescue, it's one of the most valuable tools for insuring your safety.

Man, I didn't know the weight capacity on a T15 was sufficient to pack a truck!?
