Eric, I'll work on getting the Lake Street Fleet crew to send their stuff in, and I'll check with the boss (ahoku) and see if this year is a go. If it is I'll send my reg. From the hawaii office :)

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

100% polyester - 50+ UPF protection and dries super fast.

I bought one from Kayak Hanalei on Kauai - love it!  It's my first choice for what I wear under my kayaking gear or diving gear.  :smt001

I got a "new" one on Maui in 2005 for snorkeling/ freediving cause I left mine on the mainland. It outlasted my other one, I still use it for diving and kayaking. It was made by Victory Wetsuit Company from Huntington Beach. Here's a link:

Met with my good friend Brandi recently, and we hashed out some details for this year's Gyotaku.  Her efforts and the help of her team of volunteers each year has made the fish printing a really special part of Gimme Shelter - thank you so much, Brandi, for your continued dedication to the Gimme Shelter Gyotaku Extravaganza!  :smt001

Here's the plan:

I've always wanted to be a part of the Gyotaku, but scoring and prepping for the potluck have limited me to just a couple of quick visits to the Gyo over the years.  Scoring has actually become more and more manageable with the refining of the system and the fact that only about 25% of participants turn in fish, so it's time for a change.  This year I'm moving the scoring up to the campground to be right next to the fish printing!  I've spoken to Jack Sanford (campground owner) about this, and he's all about it, so it's basically a done deal.

Kids print for free, and there are shirts and all the printing materials available to adults who wish to participate.  This is a really cool family event.  At the potluck we'll ask all the kids to come up in their prints, and each kid will get a prize.

- I think we agreed on a cut-off age for kids - if you're 16 you need a fishing license, and you can't print for free!
- Must bring your own fish and take it with you!
- Kids must have an adult accompanying them in order to participate.
- No smoking.

So stoked to make this move that will allow me to more fully experience, enjoy and learn from the Gyotaku along with the turning in of fish at the scoring check-in.  This gig is evolving, and that growth and change comes from ideals and observations made about the world around us.  The fish, the kelp, the abs, the salmon and everything in the web of life here are changing - things are doing what I used to wonder about when I'd consider that my grandparents could harvest 10 abs apiece back in the day, or that it's been just over 20 years now that you could keep a salmon or steelhead in the Eel.  Things change - generally, wildlife declines.  I want this event to always be about the respect we have for our environment and the amazing resources living on the landscape, and that means that the event is also about how we appreciate, preserve and work to restore these things that are so precious to us.  Bringing the kids in to the mix and having them do hands-on art with the wildlife that we idolize is absolutely in line with how I want things to go.  Thanks for participating.  :smt001

Unfortunately we will not be making it this year. We are super bummed because this is one of our favorite events. Looking forward to all the reports and pics. We will be back next year.
