The ones that are processed and in plastic packages, are they good for bait?  They are a bit processed and missing the guts but they are cheaper.....

It works fine for rockfish and Lingcod.

You can usually find the white boxes of whole squid at Safeway. At least the one by my house has it. That being said the processed stuff still smells like squid and will work as a cut bait.

look for an Asian food store in your area, they usually keep fresher stuff, if you don't want frozen but I would use whatever is cheaper.

The Seawave stuff at Safeway is my Go-To!  Best price for 3LB of Squid.  I buy as many as possible, diviy up into 1Gallon bags 1LB a piece and have several trips worth ready to go.  And if I dont use them, they can always go into a crab trap towards the end of the year.

Seafood City (Asian Supermarket)  carries 3 kinds of squid; small, large and jumbo.  You can buy by the pound.  I am going fishing tomorrow and got 1 Jumbo (cut bait), 4 Large (whole bait) and 5 pieces of Sardines.  Bill was around $8.

this is what I do too. I use some tupperware containers to split up the bait and to contain it on the yak.
I don't go into safeway very often so when I do, I load up on bait, martini onions, gin, and hot sauce :smt005
usually get a comment from the cashier of "what the F are you doing with that squid?"
