Post by: mooch on June 27, 2006, 09:41:43 AM
Here a pic of Suart's dog - Aspen. Apparently Aspen was snooping around the garage and caught on to a "fishy scent". He sticks his head into Stuart's Bait bucket and look what happened  :smt005

Josh - I read an article (don't remember the specific magazine) about a guy who now makes a living building back-yard ponds that you can swim in  :smt007 It's basically a swimming pool filled with plants, fish, turtles, log jams, gravel bottom....ect. How cool would that be  :smt045! Jump in the pool with your speedos and feed your fish while you practice your breath holds  :smt002

This is another reason why I play the lottery  :smt001

That could be fun, but I think it'd be hard to maintain and especially to show off.  I'd rather have a multi hundred gallon tank indoors that folks could see and could keep neater fish than koi in.

Heres Bugsy on a three day camping/exploring trip on the Colorado River.  He is absolutely fearless of any man/beast/etc/etc.  Hell take on anything from a gopher to a full grown Rottie.  Fortunately for him I am there to
help him exercise a little "restraint."

Title: Re: Pet pics
Post by: glderguy on October 20, 2006, 12:37:52 PM
Thanks guys.  He is a lot of fun.  W/his aggressive nature, especially toward larger dogs, kinda surprised hes made it this long.  I try to get him to sit in my lap, but he is pretty active, as such is a "dynamic" load- all over the place!
Not long after this shot we went by some swimming ducks, he was in the water, head first on his way to attack em!
Reeled him in real quick.  Why?  Well when the outfitter launched us on our trip he said, and I thought jokingly, watch your little dog in the water, we have some big striper in these waters.  Wasnt sure if he was joking, but when we finished and landed at the marina beach, I was was hungry for "real food" after days of eating that freeze dried "stuff."
Went into the marina store there only to see some massive striper mounts of fish caught in the area, huge fish, 40-50
lbs at least.  Do you think a big striper could/would take a 7 lb dog? Or was the guy just messing w/me?

At work I was feeding a Pheasant he was really flighty you couldn't get near him and his hen you would rarely see.  They had babies then moved on. A few months later I spot an immature male standing next to my truck, so I start feeding him he is really bold, when I come to work he is in my spot waiting for me, then sorta chases/follows me to the door, and when I leave he chases my car. Everybody at works cracks up. Yesterday he ate out of my hand. He has  a mate but you rarely see her and if you do she takes off. It's pretty funny he acts like my dog if I walk the lot he follows me everywhere.

This is bad kitty, aka B.O.B. (big 'ol bub). He is an argus monitor and should not even be able to get up on the shelf he is sitting on.  :smt012 He doesn't like anyone much unless he is hungry then he is your best friend. :smt009 :smt008

Don't let his size fool you he is one of the fastest monitors and can cross that cage quicker than you can register the noise of him first moving. He is not very docile but only really scary when he is hungry.

This isn't my dog, but he impressed the hell out of me when I was in Hawaii a couple of years ago. He'll jump into Kealakekua Bay and swim way out, sometimes over a mile, to hang out with the dolphins. He usually swims back, like on the day I saw him, but the locals told me that he sometimes gets so excited, he forgets to swim back in.  A kayaker will pick him up and paddle him back. In one case, the dolphins saw that he was struggling and held him up until a kayaker picked him up.  I've had some enthusiastic water dogs in my life, but this one is something else!

For some time now, Mooch has been suggesting that I try taking my dog Aki out on the kayak.  I hesitated knowing how much she hate canoes and motor boats.  Well, yesterday I gave it a try during a July 4th party on a lagoon.  That dog loved it so much, she would hop from the dock into the tankwell on her own and stay there until someone took her out for a spin.

I love cats. Attached is a picture of my late baby. His name was Pendleton and I got him when he was like 4 weeks old and had to feed him with an eyedropper. His parents were both straight up wild, feral cats - so he had wild genes and a SICK demeanor. He hated all of my guy friends but LOVED any girl that I ever brought to meet him.

When he was little and we were play fighting he would latch on to my arm and I would literally fling him across the carpetted floor. He would bounce and tumble, then hop right up and keep coming back for more.

He just recently passed away, but he lived a good life of 15 years.

I miss him!!  :smt010

He'll be 16 months at the end of this month.

Accident.  I was playing fetch with him at the beach and the product manager for the new camera was there taking pictures of the sunrise.  He asked if he could take pics of my dog and I agreed.  He submitted the pics to his marketing department and everyone loved the energy and focus of my pooch.  They chose him to be the poster child.  Too bad I didn't have any contracts in place, but we still got a free camera with two lenses out of it.

I recently had to put my 16yr old Lab, Althea aka Piggy down. She swam after the ball untill about a month before i had to do it. I miss her so much! I'm a bachelor, so invest way too much emotionally in my dogs. Heres a pic from about a year ago. also one of my pride and joy, Althea's son and pick of the litter, Buffel. A 100lb Lab Sharpei mix As a youngster he would catch brook trout in the riffels. He sniffs the water surface and works upstream and pounces. he brings them to show me before eating them. Does he need a fishing licence? many people think labs were bred for birding. not so. they were bred by cod fishermen and used to bail overboard to collect the floaters.

Nice call.  Coco is a kick-a-poo blend that is coveted here in Ukiah.  Her dad is indeed a Griffon, the mom is a peki-pom...the pups are the coolest little dogs.  I would not have gotten her if Kicknbass hadn't intervened.

We had heard that Havanese were a perfect breed for us: Affectionate, intelligent, small, hypoallergenic few genetic problems--and they were supposed to like water.  But after spending $1200 for a puppy, we were quite disappointed to find out that Bentley wasn't waterproof:  After one particularly vigorous scrub down in the tub, we found that his eyes washed off!!

Since he was obviously defective, we seriously considered returning him for a refund. But by then we'd fallen in love with him. So we decided to keep him anyway, and fortunately as he grew older, his eyes did eventually grow back.

The doggie is our 12 year old sheltie Lucy on her first (I think) kayak trip at Folsom Lake.  We adopted her in November 2008 from the Norcal Sheltie Rescue.  Lucy will try anything once but we'll have to see if she'll go on a kayak a second time.  We'll put her aboard either the P-13 or P-15 where she'll have more leg(s) room.  We figured if she would eat vegetables, bananas, and citrus fruit, she would say "hey, why not" to kayaking.

Anyway hers my fresh water fishing budies....

nothing beats a few good dogs! The shepard dingo looking dog is honor, the black one is sally, fishin twin lakes. Honor walkin the west walker river, with walker burger on his mind. Stinks is our cats name.

oh and our crazy never aging cat, "The Hillside Strangler" is his nick name. One day he showed up with a full blown parrot???? I found him in the front yard removing the parrots head. I was a little nervous he had a mysterious pet parrot, with a decapitated head, we had no choice but to ditch the parrots body and destroy the evidence. Stinks has spent 6 weeks in the joint as it is. This would have been his third strike by california state law. He got lucky.  :)

Eat, Sleep and Fight is how he lives.

Lucy died about 4 years ago and Zoe is 16 years old now. She's always been very "doggy" - chasing cats, rolling in anything foul, wandering the streets...we're amazed she's lived this long, because she's been near death lots of times.

Hello MrsFisHunter, You want a dog or two? Both of them are in the "dog house" as they got into the lemon cucumber plants and ate every one..including the blossoms, destroying one plant all altogether! On top of that the elder got stung on the nose by a bee and now has a football for a head.  :smt013

Red (ten soon) has been coming to work since he was seven days old and some how picked up this trick on his own. Some days he wanders for a moment and his mama (Lily....going on fifteen) gets the paper first but Red will trample her for it. Patrick had a lab named Griffey who would pile up all the neighborhoods newspapers on the porch  if he got out of the yard.

Some of you might remember the accident my little dog Buzz had back in '08.
He pulled through and recovered just fine. Always walked a little strange after that.

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,11497.msg110838.html#msg110838 (http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,11497.msg110838.html#msg110838)

Sadly though, at two months shy of 14...old age caught up to him.
The wife and I decided it was time. He was put to sleep last Sunday.
It's the hardest decision a pet owner ever makes. We both cried all day.

Everyday for almost 14 years he would greet me at the door when I came home, always happy to see me. Now it seems strange to walk in and not see him there.

I know many of you can relate to my story.

Buzz will be missed...time will heal.

Here's a little post my daughter put on her blog:
http://alyssaballisty.blogspot.com/2010/03/hardest-part-about-owning-pet.html (http://alyssaballisty.blogspot.com/2010/03/hardest-part-about-owning-pet.html)

I'm feeling your pain, Al.

My Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Cheyenne, passed on Monday, March 1, 2010. 2 more months and 3 days, she would have been 16 years old. A stinkin' tumor took her away. That dog would do anything for me. Dive off rocks into raging rivers, sit in the back of a truck for hours just so she could go for a ride, or wait patiently in the house for hours for me to get home. Luckily, I was able to take her with me almost everywhere I went. We were only separated a few hundred hours of her entire life (it's great to have a job where you can bring your dog to work). Of all the dogs I've had, she was the best. Lots of shedding fur to deal with, but that dog could flat out fetch ducks, geese, tennis balls, tree limbs, rocks off the bottom of the river, you name it, she would bring it back.

Rest in peace, Big Red.

This was down at the Dog Beach in San Diego, New Years Day 2010.

She left me with these two goofballs, Sonic and Dakota. Cheyenne used to keep them inline. They mourn her too. Dakota whines all the time now in the living room, and has taken over Cheyenne's dog bed.

Here's T-bone, our 9-month old Decker Terrier.

Looks like it's going to be one button ear and one erect ear... goofy dog.

Also an action shot of a near collision with my 5-year old during some major battle with the sprinklers.

More on the breed here http://www.deckerterrierhome.com/home.cfm (http://www.deckerterrierhome.com/home.cfm)

Here's Penny (gray) and Paupau (any Laker's fans out there?!). We think they're Dorkies - dauschaund + yorkie.

We adopted them from a rescue agency a year ago.  They were found as strays in San Bernardino and had severe separation anxiety when we first got them.  We were finally able to leave them home alone un-gated after 11 months without worrying about furniture being destroyed.  We can't imagine life without them!

Been looking at these pet pics and decided to take the plunge.
I would like to introduce the newest member of our family and future yak partner.
"Tike" is a Aussie mix we adopted from the no kill shelter and he is 5 months old.
We named him tike due to his short legs - makes me think of a "Little Tike Toy"

See Ya Soon,

We have a runt in the litter. I was noticing her about the second day of whelping and that she was very lethargic. So we have been feeding her by hand since. Happy to say that it is paying off and she is showing much improvement. So the hours of lack of sleep is part of a litter. Diana and I have been switching off and... she spent her first full shift with them last night.
* compare first time in warming box in comparison to today. Amazing growth :smt002

Rentals will be part of the contract to new owners with a provisions stating that they are for hire as chick magnets. Each owner will then decide what to charge :). Eric, if I we're to keep one I would say no less then $100 a day which is approximately what I would guess is the going rate for any street walker on a leash that is !  ;) I don't think they charge by the second! :smt044

Home made toys for pups that work.
1) Teething ring made from pool ring.
2) Clear plastic tube made from flex tube and stuffed with a dove wing
3) Old orange juice bottle.
4) Towel bone
They love these and play with them all the time. The stuffed tube with the dove wing drives them nuts and I'll try to capture that today in a picture.

Yes.. they do.  Chad, that's a beautiful shepherd.  Do you have shedding issues?  Jake does.  I could knit a new sweater every other day with the hair I find on the floor.
ChuckE, I have DOg EnVy........
Allen... so do I.  Jake actually belongs to my dad and is with me for training while he's still a puppy.  Although, he's very obedient, he's like a big rough kid right now and still a little too much for my parents to handle.  German Shepherds are known to mature around 2 yrs old.  I'll be shedding tears when I have to give him back. :smt010  ... but at least I know he'll still be in the family and protecting them.

Major shedding issues. I could brush her everyday and still not keep up. She will be a year old next week and a real handful. Smart as a whip- Problem is she knows it.

Tessa the Destroya. Chewed through 2 doors, took out 300.00 worth of blinds, chewed through 5x5 piece of sheetrock in the kitchen, chewed the entire trim panel off the left door of the truck, chewed off the cruise control knob( 150.00) TWICE. Buried over 20 stuffed animals in the back yard. I had no idea what I was getting into when I resuced her. But we saw it through and shes ok now. hehe. She has pack mentality and just cant stand to be alone. JC I must be getting old. She did find Dustins rod and reel at Muir the day after the big wipeout haha

This 19 year old Shep being cradled in his father's arms last night in Lake Superior. Shep falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. The buoyancy of the water soothes his arthritic bones. Lake Superior is very warm right now, so the temp of the water is perfect.
I was so happy I got to capture this moment for John. By the way, John rescued Shep as an 8 month old puppy, and he's been by his side through many adventures :).

Watch the drug dealer Mooch , my two little "DARLINGS " managed to open a bottle  ( child proof cap , of course ) of Excedrine  Migraine and eat their booty ! A visit to the vet and $300 later all is well , they always pull this crap after hours and I get stuck paying the "emergency " fee , good thing I love them so .

No cats?   :smt044 Here's Dexter and Cloud.  No love for the outdoors, and are pretty useless in general, but they will gladly chow on fresh fish!

Some of you may have met Mabel. She loves the outings but refuses to pee on the water so gets a bit agitated towards the end of the trips. she also makes everything else so much more difficult. Last outing she fell into a dragging Sabiki rig but luckily the hooks went into her life vest only.

Never been much of a cat fan always been a dog person. Daughter talked me into taking on this little guy cuz I had an empty house. He has become the love of the neighborhood and just walks into people's houses  whether they got dogs or not.

And folks say he’s not a duck dog! Actually the groomer puts this in because he doesn’t like his back feet or tail messed with. Second shot is from the dog sitter who said she took him to The Sign of the Whale in Point Arena. She says they want him back. We were afraid he’d run up z tan, but they just said the tips were great!
