In my almost 30 years of scuba and free diving yesterday was the first time I had the willies about being attacked.

That's very unsettling and makes me think you were being watched. I trust in that sense of feeling something is there watching.

There have been a few times while Ab diving over the years where I got that feeling - I got out right away.

My regular dive partner and I have an agreement that if either of us feel that way, we're done, no judgment.

Early in the year for this I think...  Not that it couldn't happen any time.

Glad the guy was unhurt.

@JWR hey man this Bobby from adventures by the sea.  I saw the incident and was talking to you in the parking lot. So after reading your account what i saw is much more clear.  So I was on the plaza beach looking out at the water and noticed some splashing.  First I thought it was a tipped kayaker then I saw the splashing and thought it was divers struggling to get themselves underwater just kicking their fins on the surface.  I really thought it was a shark  but I just couldn't see enough to confirm nor could I believe I had just witnessed an attack let alone on a kayak.

So I ran into my shop to grab binoculars to get a clearer vision but I couldn't find any and when I came back all I saw was a red splotch that was your kayak.  I didn't see you at all.  I really want to apologize for not paddling out in a kayak to come investigate.  I feel just god awful that you were sitting in the water by yourself.  I had no idea what had just happened.  Had I been able to see what was happening and seen you I would have beelined out there.  Just happy you escaped unharmed.

So at this point I am standing by the railing at the top of the stairs at the plaza beach looking out trying to figure out what happened.  I was sure at this point that I was seeing things and it must have just been divers.  That's about when the sailboat passed by. I Saw them pass by very close to shore so this must have been the point when they picked you up.  I couldn't confirm it was a shark attack until I talked to you in the parking lot.

I think you should just hang onto the kayak as a memento but if you would like it repaired I could fix it for you no charge.  Once again just happy you are okay and I know myself and @hotchicken would be stoked to fish with you sometime.

Cheers

Yikes. I've paddled there with little kids in the boat, as I'm sure many others have.

Would a shark shield help prevented this attack? Im surprise there aren't many more of GWS attacks considering the amount of seal activities. but anytime we get out there, there is a chance of an attack. Always go with buddies for this reason even if you are an expert solo.

I didn't get attacked yesterday because I was constantly peeing in my wetsuit.

More sharks, more seals, more people in the water. By the numbers we are going to have more incidents.
What worries me, is a sudden drop of seal populations with a high population of white sharks. Results for kayakers and other recreations will be in the zone of danger.
