Title: Turtle on the surf line!
Post by: alien on May 12, 2018, 07:41:29 AM
While fishing for perch I came along this little turtle on the beach. Don't know if is a sea turtle or a fresh water turtle. Could anybody here help identify this turtle?

Crazy! Doesn’t look like a sea turtle to me.

There must be someone on this forum who likes turtles and can help you identify it.  :smt001

Someones pet freed into the ocean by some kook.

Sea turtles have different legs that look more like flippers.

I'd say fresh water

That tail is long definitely not a redear slider what city did you find it? It’s super young which makes me think it’s not a pet people usually dump them when the get out of the cute stage. Did you call DFW to report it?

That’s a native western pond turtle! California’s only native turtle. In Marin females will sometimes lay eggs on the beach side but freshwater is nearby (1/4 mi). Where were you? You can PM me if you don’t want to give up your  spot!

I was fishing Zmudawski which is near the Pajoro River I was a few mile south of the mouth. I was thinking a bird picked it up and dropped it. Or may be it got  washed out from the mouth.
But i'm not sure if the mouth is open or not...sure thing though, I was surprise! What do they eat?
