Hi all, wondering if anyone has put a downrigger on there yak. I am gearing up to fish out in the puget sound and have read some of the bottom fish and salmon are way down there and almost a neccesity around here. Also anyone up in the Seattle area want to get together sometime give me a shout.

Hey Lee,

I just remembered we had talked about possibly getting together this week for me to test drive your yak.  Sorry, I completely forgot.

I don't think downriggers are a necessity around here.  I used to fish salmon in the Sound with and without downriggers and both are effective and have their time and place.  It's the kings around here that are mostly deep.  The same methods these guys talk about in Cal apply up here.  We'll do just fine without downriggers for the other salmon variety as they are typically higher up in the water column.

And you don't want downriggers for bottom fish.  You probably wont be trolling for them anyways.  And the possiblily of snagging a downrigger ball on the rocks is a recipe for disaster.
