Here locally just south of Moss landing. Surf got gnarly about 9 am. Landed 2 fatties and a medium which I gifted to a friend. Starting to catch bigger fish more frequently. Might hit it again tomorrow.  :smt001

You know Alien, way before I got into kayak fishing I fished next to you at Sunset once. Funny how small or world is. Always remember us rockfishing when Pat kicked our buns at the Monterey Bay event. That was so fun and probably the most productive day I ever had rockfishing.

I miss perch fishing, but almost have the same fun with crappie down here in Texas. Scenery isn't doesn't compare like being on a beach, but it does fill a niche. Happy New Year.

I was just considering selling all of my surf fishing gear today. But looking at stuff like this reignites my desire to throw on my waders, grab my 9' rod with 15 lb test and get out on the shore.
I might just do that once RF season ends.

This !!!!    When rock fishing closes, there isn't a whole hell of a lot to do here in Salinas.  :smt001 Most stocked trout lakes are at least an hour and a half away. I am only 15 minutes away from  perch fishing areas. The good thing is that perch really starts to pick up now. See ya on the beach . Hope to improve my striper fishing this year. I get bored with striper fishing especially when perch are more active. But the idea of having a 10 pound striper from the beach may be a little more tempting this year.

Today-  Waves died down.  Sand dollar beach at 9am    nada    Main Beach Santa Cruz.....Nada.

Manresa proper had what looked like good structure when we checked on Wednesday, mid/low tide and visible rips stretching all the way out to 2d sandbar,  We need rain!!  And a few 10-12-foot swells.

BTW Sand Crab Classic will start taking entries within a couple weeks.  I will post here first.  So great to see more people get into perch fishing.  I try to perch every day I can.  Like my daily nap,
"It's not just a commitment, It's a Responsibility!"

Bouché

ps don't forget the Salinas and Pajaro Rivers are holding stripers near the lagoons right now.  Mostly 17-24 inches but I've heard of some 6-pound fish recently.   From the bank, or from the yak.

I'm Jonesing with jealousy lol . I was going out this a.m. till my wife said our furnace died . :smt013

Had to troubleshoot that till my cousin who does HVAC came over . All we needed to do was reset the blower switch and change the filter but by then  :smt012

Nice guys! Had last week off work and was able to get on some excellent perching Thursday and Friday. All CPR'd except for the hungry fella who choked half of the lure - wasn't going to make it so gave it away to a guy on the beach. Such a fun fight. I had lost one that size if not bigger a couple cast before so I was extra careful when I hooked into this one. At point I felt like I was snagged or something because he was pulling so hard and not head shaking.

The first three pics are the same fish. The 4th and 5th pics are different and in the 14" range. I got 6 more that size. Couple great days!

Lost some Bulls at the shore.  :smt013  :smt044

Biggest is 14. You still got me Scummy.   :smt003

And I am claiming Salinas to foo' s.  :smt044

You can have it, braddah! I'm happy here in my little Monterey bubble.  :smt004

I fished hard on Saturday with slow results. Three different spots and a ton of walking. Ended up with only 5. All about the size pictured.

The fast incoming tide and swell made it pretty sporty. To much water moving around to throw my fav lure, so I was committed to the grubs. 4 of my 5 fish came in the afternoon as the tide started to drop.

You won this weekend, Bulldog! But I will be back!

A Northern Marin County beach was going off yesterday.  :smt002

Nothing too big, but steady BSPs for the three hours I was out there.

Yup. Friday I did well but Saturday I only gifted on med. As soon as I seen the water and the conditions, I only fished for an hour. I registered for the samdcrab classic. Check it out.

Sorry I missed you Bulldog---Alex.
I went to the usual Manresa sandbar and the big colony of sand crabs moved somewhere down the beach. I  couldn't locate them. Manresa at 13:30-15:30. Only got the one and took the pic and back he went.  :smt006

21st was looking good, but no fish, one measly nibble.  Headed to Seabright despite building winds.  Got four fish one pictured below.  Returned to Main Beach by Rivermouth for the evening.   Slow going nibbles till almost dark then a couple fish bit.  Pic of the bigger one below.  Morning session was livened by a military attack(?) chopper zoomed right at me, then veered off.  Probably the pilot is a surfcaster.  For those of you in the know, is this an Apache?  I see the pylons and predator shape....  Very cool and FAST!  Banked the turn like a skater working a bowl.

I saw that bad boy as well.

Saddened that this might have been the last fishing outting with my honda crv. I purchased a 2015 crv and am trying to sneek in another trip before my sister in law picks her up. :smt010  :smt010

As long as I was in the program rotating your shots, I figured to spruce them up a bit.  don't you like the "ID" label I put on your beached perch?  hahahaha

Nice job, boys! I'm hearing the bite has been kinda slow everywhere this week. Maybe that means they will be real hungry this weekend....

Hey Bushy!  That looks like an AH-1Z Viper... narrow fuselage, 4 rotors, skids instead of wheels.  Apaches look like deadly, fat bodied dragonflies with legs hanging down (wheels).   :smt006

Dude. I caught three the other day on sandcrabs. A lot of times they would bite the head off first and I would get lucky and catch them on the second cast. ( Gotcha sucker !   :smt005 )   I think I have some learning to do on hooking the sand crab and experiment on hook sizes .
