What a beautiful little lake to paddle around! Nice drive as well.

Never fished there before, so I drove up today about 4pm itching to try out the stuff from my mystery tackle box. Found a nice little fallen tree South of the launch and pulled out bluegill for about a half hour solid.

Then I headed North and fished a football weed less jig with a lizard trailer and got a couple huge take downs, which I miraculously missed... So at the end of the evening I switch it up to a small top water popper and pulled in a few smaller bass.

Not really a great report, but a great day, and an awesome place to kayak! I guess there are some big bass in there, so I'll definitely be putting some more time on there.

Does anyone here fish there?

Safety First / Re-entry practice!
« on: June 03, 2016, 06:11:15 PM »
So, I've been kayaking almost a year now, and haven't yet forced myself into a re entry situation, but I realize the intelligent move is to learn the procedure as best I can, so I'm doing some more practice!

I'm house sitting for a friend this weekend, and have the pool all to myself. It's 9 ft. deep, so I can't cheat, I have my kayak, and all the gear I wear fishing with me and plan to practice some re-entry, both with an empty boat, and a fully loaded/rigged boat.

Any tips on what I should practice? I've watched the videos, and I can get back in the boat now, but I'm looking for any situations I should practice? Obviously with a pool I'm not factoring current, and the water temperature is ideal, but I have the place to myself, so I might as well learn as much as I can.

Any info/tips appreciated!

General Fishing Tips / Cheater Lures?
« on: February 25, 2016, 07:23:10 PM »
Anyone ever seen/used these? http://sacramento.craigslist.org/spo/5454385926.html

I checked out the google, mostly saw cheater bomber lures. Haven't seen these, could they just be renamed? I checked out his youtube, and it has great action, so I sent him a note asking for some specs and pics as well.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Last minute Rancho Seco
« on: February 05, 2016, 03:41:03 PM »
Looks like my shore fishing buddy backed out, but my stuff is already loaded and the plan is set in motion to be at Rancho Seco tomorrow targeting trout. I've only fished there once, and only caught one trout (Berryessa) so don't hope for any professional advice [emoji23], but if you want to join it'd be nice to meet some folks! I work til midnight, so being there at the Crack of dawn isn't in the cards, whenever I wake up is when I'll arrive, but I'll have my radio on 69 if anyone comes out! I'll be in a grey dodge pickup, or a dusk Ws thresher.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Why does my anchor trolly twist?
« on: January 13, 2016, 12:43:10 AM »
I recently put a DIY anchor trolly on my WS thresher 140, using hardware store pulleys at the bow and stern, a length of BRAIDED rope, and a stainless steel ring in the middle to clip my anchor/chute to. The trolleys operation is flawless, until I attach something to it. After sitting in the current of the slough or the ocean for any amount of time my anchor/chute line always winds up wrapped around the trolley line, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Sometimes it's not so bad, but last weekend I got so frustrated trying to untangle my chute I just cut the rope away. It really just doesn't make sense to me at all.

Could the ring be catching so much current that it's able to spin despite the pull of an anchor or chute on the end?

Thanks for any insight!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Port of Sac 1/9/16
« on: January 10, 2016, 01:04:57 AM »
Went out to the port today, mostly just to test out my new dry gear and work on some different paddling techniques. I did get some fishing in, and got skunked. Port: 2 Cody: 0

Any who I saw a bunch of kayakers, and talked to a few. I don't know why but didn't even think to ask who anyone was, but surely some of you were out there! I was on the dusk WS thresher. So if you were out there, how did you do?!

Kayaks / Conseal deck kits?
« on: November 18, 2015, 11:47:59 AM »
Has anyone used the conseal brand of deck traction pads? I looks for some reviews, but didn't find too much. Wanted to add a seadeck kit to my thresher, but making the templates myself plus the price are big downsides, conseal has a thresher kit already for $100.

Thanks!

General Fishing Tips / Sabiki Rig?
« on: August 26, 2015, 08:58:18 PM »
I'm headed out to Tomales Saturday (on a boat unfortunately) and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this whole sabiki rig deal? This will be my second time fishing salt, first time was at Tomales on my kayak catching leopards and rays on squid, and we didn't have much use for live bait back in Kentucky on the lake. Any who want to try my luck at halibut fishing, so I rigged up a couple drift set ups (which I've also never tried) and picked up some sabiki rigs based on what I've read on here. Now, the question is, do you bait your sabiki's, or just drop them down on a bait ball? I've heard and read conflicting stories and was hoping to get some local knowledge.

Also, I've been thinking I'll use my little ugly stick spinning reel with 4lb. test for the tiny sabiki's I have, is that too light? I do just want to catch small bait fish after all (in theory).

Thanks for any insight!

Introductions / New here!
« on: August 21, 2015, 12:29:42 PM »
Hello everyone,
My name is Cody. I'm pretty new to this whole kayaking thing and the fishing out west in general! I'm a military transplant from Kentucky and just recently figured out how to fish the local waters after moving next to the sloughs in Suisun. Was gifted a couple home made kayaks made from fiberglass in the 60s or 70s, they're far from perfect but they get me out on the sloughs and after some striper. Also headed out to Tomales Bay and go to my first bat ray a couple weeks ago!

Anyway I look forward to picking up all the tips and tricks around this knowledgeable place and hope to see some of you guys out fishing soon!
