I know you can score sanddabs in Monterey and Moss Landing, but anyone ever find them near Capitola or Santa Cruz?

thanks for the info if you got it!

I have caught them along with sand sole and starry flounder in sandy stretches off of the mile reef in Capitola. They are usually smaller than the ones I've caught  off of Moss and can be annoying bait stealers when drifting for halibut.

Comparing Monterey and Capitola s a toughie. It's just so much more fishy in Monterey. I've spent some time in Capitola and personally haven't caught any. The sandy areas just S and W of the kelp beds holds some flatfsh like SCAaron says. I've seen a few pulled up.

IMO, its worth driving just a little further to either Moss or MBK.  I've caught a few incidental dabs off crapitola, but not in any numbers.

If you are going solo, Monterey is probably a safer bet than Moss, as you won't have to worry about the tidal flow through the jaws.

thanks for the info.  I live about a mile away from sea cliff park (cement ship) so was wondering about the SC dabs.  I have fished Monterey just off san carlos beach and it certainly is loaded, was just hoping for a closer spot.

SCAllen and I have had luck with dabs up at Scotts Creek -- launched from DPort Landing.
