Well I 'll be go to hell. We get back from Cabo San Lucas on the 17th. Not that this is a bad thing. :smt003 Maybe some other time this year Eric. The plan sounds hot though. I hope the spring winds that usually predominate in May are non- existent. Pacific halibut up by Black Sands Beach would be frickin awesome.

We are in .......only if you can promise the same "great" ocean conditions that we experienced last fall. :smt044

That is a beautiful picture. Love these conditions you know its fishy when the swells are up like that.

Well now... it sounds like a party. I'm hoping that the WX and the ocean will cooperate out there in May. It's a long ways off but... I'm good to go and I'm trying to convince Mel that it'll be a blast. She's a salt newb so, this will take some doing to get her out there. I'm guessing that info on campsites and stuff will be posted as the date nears. How far is Shelter Cove from San Jose anyways...?

Good times boys...

Freddie

It's 1 hour off 101 from Garberville, and I'd say the Golden Gate to Garberville is 3.5 at a good clip, so 4.5 hours from the GG to camp.  If you fly like a bat out of hell and know the road over to the coast you can do it in 4, but don't schedule it like that!   :smt002

Shelter Cove is actually an excellent place for newbies.  The launch is beautifully protected and way kayak friendly.  If the usual north winds kick our butts we should still have some protected water to fish, and it's potentially fishy very close to the launch.  The locals and those in the know actually slam the perch around the launch area at some high tides in the spring and early summer - like when we'll be there.   :smt001  But I'm talking rockfish and ling fishy - I've caught lings, nice reds, and quite a few blacks within a few hundred yards of the launch, way fishy most of the time within a mile or two around the buoys, and we'll have alot of nearshore rocky reef and kelp beds to work with if the ocean's nice.  I'd be surprised if we don't see some 15-20 pound lings with a big yak showing and some decent water for a coupl'a'few days.   :smt001  We may have to make it a tournee...

Right on.  I've got to give my "fair warning" though - I've fished alot of hours to have the success I've had, and I edit the videos for flattery!  So there's no guarantees, but I'll do my best to put everyone on the fish to the best of my ability and experience in the area.  I know that with the knowledge and experience of this group there won't be a problem having some success if we can avoid an all out storm (like what happened last year  :smt009).

However the MBF ("money between friends", I think) format works we can do something like that.  I'd like to include C&R into the tournee format if the bite's good and the time is right - sliding big cabs, reds, blacks and lings off the Hawg Trough and back into the water on video - that sounds like so much fun.   :smt001

Trolling for salmon in April of '06 between the Bell and the Whistle I snapped these digi stills of rockfish (blacks or blues) just playing around under my yak at the top of 60-70' of water.   :smt001
