Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / ARW Tuesday 4/21
« on: April 21, 2009, 04:42:38 PM »
Hobie Dave and I met up at ARW and launched at 7:30.  I picked up some live shiners at Mike's bait in Oakland on the way in.  Unfortunately, I forgot to charge the battery on my live well so the bait didn't live too long.  It was flat, calm and hot; a beautiful day.  The fishing was very slow.  There were several PBs in the area but we didn't see anybody catch anything.  Dave turned out to be the angler of the day!  He got one Halibut and a couple of fun hookups with rays. As you can see from the pictures, Dave's Yak is pimped for the sunshine! The pictures are cell phone pics, so they aren't the best.  No fish for me, but still a great day on the Bay.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Rigging My 09 Hobie Revolution
« on: April 19, 2009, 12:42:18 PM »
Here are a couple of pictures of my new revolution with the fishfinder and a rod holder installed.  I used Ram mounts and mounted the fishfinder in a different location than I have seen before. The ram ball is side mounted just inside one of the mesh covered pockets.  There is still plenty of room to use the pocket.  I wanted it close to the seat where I could see it and punch the buttons without having to reach all the way forward to the mast mount.  I also didn't want to use the mast mount since I use a sail occasionally.  The rod holder is a model 117 from Ram.  It extends a little higher than most I have seen and it seems to be more adjustable than most due to its two pivots.

Anybody available for a Halibut hunt at ARW Tuesday?  This weather won't last forever.

Met up with Jedmo and Dave this morning at Oyster Point.  Fishing was pretty slow.  The PBs weren't catching either.  Late in the day as we were heading back toward the marina I picked up a 30 inch Halibut on frozen Herring with a Shicken Rig.  It was the only fish we caught all day.  Probably still a little early for the Butts.  Jedmo will follow up with pics.  Here's a picture of the Butt that was taken on my driveway when I got home.

Will be Halibut hunting with Dave and Jedmo tomorrow morning around 7 at Oyster Point.  Company welcome!  The local bait shop indicated that they should have shiners available.

I just got a new Revolution and need to put at least one rod holder on.  Can anybody advise me what kind of mounts to get and where and how to install them?

Thanks,

General Talk / Sold the Outfitter Tandem
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:11:29 PM »
Great day!  I sold my Hobie Outfitter Tandem and will be picking up a new Hobie Revolution this afternoon.  Hope to be bounce balling for Butts at Oyster Point Friday with Dave and Jedmo.  No more peddling the barge. The pimping will have to wait!

For Sale / 08 Hobie Outfitter Tandem SOLD
« on: April 05, 2009, 11:08:54 AM »

Sold

In order to get into a new single yak, I need to sell my 08 Hobie Oufitter Fisherman model, tandem yak.  This is a $2500 yak plus the new sales tax.  Mine is just over a year old and I'll take $1700 for it.  It's moss green and I'll include the Garmin fishfinder and the mounted Scotty rod holder.  You get two mirage drives, and two paddles, one has only been used once.  Two seats, one has only been used once.  This is a great boat for anyone who wants to fish with their spouse or kid.  With two people peddling, it's a breeze to get from location to location.  It has lots of storage space and is very stable for two adults.  I'm located in Danville, if anyone wants to look at it.

For Sale / 08 Hobie Outfitter Fishing Model (tandem) SOLD
« on: April 03, 2009, 04:53:54 PM »
SOLD

I have an 08 Hobie Outfitter tandem (fishing model), complete with two mirage drives, two paddles, two seats, etc.  This is my 1st yak and I now think I would prefer a single as opposed to the tandem.  I would consider trading it for a single Hobie yak.  A Revolution would be my first choice but I would consider other recent model, single mirage drive Hobies.  Mine is in good condition; a trade would also need to be relatively new and in good condition.

Anybody interested in fishing San Pablo Reservoir Wednesday or Thursday, this week?  I haven't made definite plans but either day works for me if anyone's interested.  I can't make it Friday this week.

Met up with Jedmo and Dave this morning at San Pablo.  Unlike our last trip, this one was productive.  I got 4, including one with a jaw like Jay Leno that I caught trolling a very small Rainbow Rapala along the dam.  Jedmo also got 3 or 4, including one that earned him the 5 Lb. + "whopper" hat from EBMUD.  All of the fish were good size.  I would guess somewhere between 1 1/2 to 3 Lbs.  I didn't take any pictures but Jedmo will follow up with more details and pictures.  A great day on the water!

Jedmo, Dave and I will be trying San Pablo reservoir again on Thursday.  We will be launching at the concession center entrance shortly after 7:00 following yak inspections at the main launch entrance.  The weather forecast is looking like a great day to be on the water. The water should be much clearer than when we tried last time.  There have been massive plants from Lassen since opening day, just a couple of weeks ago.  Maybe we can catch some of the "mutants" this time.  All yakers are welcome to join us.  I'll bring some home brew to celebrate the catches.

Met up with Jedmo and Fishing Dave this morning at San Pablo.  Boat inspections weren't available at the rec center entrance where we chose to launch, but they were uneventful at the main entrance.  We hit the water at about 7:30.  Water is really cloudy and full of debris from the recent storms. There was a 3000 Lb. plant on Wednesday. Trolling Rapalas produced nothing.  The lady at the rec center recommended soaking chartreuse power bait.   We gave that a try too but only Dave got a fish.  We stayed on the water until about three but the bite never came. There were a few fish being caught on the shore but all in all, a very slow day; still a good day fishing with the NCKA gang.  Great meeting Dave and Jedmo.  We will hit it again when the water clears up.

Anyone interested in trolling for trout at San Pablo Reservoir, Friday?  There have been some really large plants and I doubt that many people have fished due to the bad weather since opening day, last Saturday.  I plan to get to the main gate with my very dry and clean yak for an inspection at 7 then drive to the entrance near the dam and launch between 7 and 7:30.
