So, Emma and I went fishing Sat morning. Planned to stay 3hrs or so.... Bite was so good we stayed 6 hrs! Clouds rolled in, Nice breeze. I never felt really hot or even thirsty (didn't bring water 'cause only 3 hr trip) Got off the water and still felt fine. Got home and kinda had the shakes. Little bit later, headache, heavy sweating, dizziness. Got cool pedialyte down quick and then sipped warm Gatorade in a cool shower. Close call! I never even Had a clue!!! Just plain dumb on my part :smt012 Still not 100%. Even got a cold due to running my immune system into the dirt :smt011 Summer is upon us, be careful out there. Sneeks up on you fast!

Glad to hear all turned out (or is turning out) for the best for you! That's a scary one for sure!

It's crazy how you don't even realize it's happening! I've seen several cases of this when in a deployed location, with little to no forewarning at all!

One of the best things I've found is 50/50 mix of Gatorade and Water, learned that in my mountain biking days, the taste isn't the best, but it gets the job done!

Holy crap it must be that time of year.
So glad you are ok.

had a similar experience- but the signs were all there for me to recognize- HOT and dry weather, sunny, me putting in a lot of effort- and i totally failed to recognize those signs.

Friday i went for a quick ride-- 2 hours or so- coming back up Sir Francis Drake i started bonking, noticed i stopped sweating, and was getting chills despite it being like 90 degrees. I stopped in the sun at the base of the final climb over Loma Alta with shivers, nausea and a bit of dizziness.  Coming over Loma Alta was a chore granny gear and HR spiking...then coasted back to the car where i had RecoverLite which perked me up a bit.
At home i drank a 20 oz bottle and slept for 2 hours.

Hard to remember to stop and hydrate in the heat. I will drink two bottles before I leave the house and carry one in my vest while Shad fishing
Seldom do I crack that water till I get done after 6+ hours of fishing in 90+ degrees.
Glad u r ok. We sure aren't getting any younger. Gotta take care!

When I'm out trolling, I try to remind myself to take a swill of water each time I check my bait. Now that is a routine I don't really even think about it anymore.

I had the same thing happen to me when me and my brother were hiking. Finally made it to the car and started cooling off, and while I was driving home on the highway I started having a seizure. Thankfully it was mild and I mostly just locked up my arms so I didn't swerve around while I was shaking and the traffic was steady.

Matt slept through it  :smt009 :smt012

Heat strokes are scary stuff.

Glad your OK Ron

Heat stroke is no joke, a friend (matt-and-a-half) works as a volunteer medic at events in the sac area. The most common injury they have is heat stroke, dozens every event and a lot of kids :smt009

This summer the heat has really snuck up on us, I have some new and really nice Klean Kanteen insulated bottles that I have been using every day, 20oz of water kept cold, I carry 2 full of icewater and drain them by noon when I refill them.  If packed with ice they are still cold the next day :)

Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3

Thanks for the heads-up on the symptoms.  Another symptom is leg cramps.  I used to race motorcycle enduros; 100 mile races off road on single track.  I'd stay hydrated fine on warm sunny days.  One race was cold and wet.  I didn't hydrate enough that time.  On the way home, my legs cramped up.  I was pulling a trailer and had a manual tranny, driving on mountain roads.  I don't remember how I got to the side of the road and stopped, but a passer-by found me on the ground hollering in agony.

Dehydration can cause muscle cramps!
