Hey there, I've been lurking/reading for a while now. My buddies and i have bought kayaks over the last few months and have been fishing throughout the delta. We planned a weekend that we could all get away together and made camping reservations at Albion for this weekend. We've got all the gear (thanks to this awesome site). Now that we are getting close we are checking forecasts and watching the weather, tides, swells as best we can.

I've been party boat fishing a handful of times and caught my share of rockfish so i am not new to the fishing part of it, but i am new to kayaking on the ocean.

Magicseaweed.com (closest location is Point Arena, right?) is showing 1' surf on sunday, which i take as a good sign.

Weather forecast and tides seem good.

We plan to drive up Saturday morning, and fish if we can, explore the river with the significant others and then get up early on Sunday and get out on the ocean.

If anyone else is up there, feel free to say high, we'll have a blue Outback, a Blue Tarpon 120 and my Lime green Moken14.

If anyone has any input on the forecast that is a red flag, feel free to chime in.

We should have a full report of the adventure when we get back on Monday.

Thanks Gator.

Forecast keeps getting better. It will be nice to hopefully get out of the smoke for a couple days.

A little late on the report, but better late than never.

Our trip was originally supposed to be 5 people and 3 fishermen. It ended up just two fishermen. My buddy Matt and I got a late start Saturday and cruised up to Albion on Saturday afternoon, arrived about 5pm to beautiful conditions. We set up camp, ate dinner and retired early with anticipation for the next day. Sunday morning we woke with a steady offshore breeze ripping through camp. Our vision of being on the water at first light was crushed, we hid in the truck until the sun hit camp about 9. On the water about 9:30, the offshore breeze was still blowing creating an interesting wave action for us since it was our first time out. We made it just out of the cove to about 60' of water. My first drop down with a feather rig got hit instantly by a black rockfish! Score. I was happy at that point, lol, so with the seas a little larger than we felt comfortable with we cruised back into the cover for shelter. About 20 minutes later the wind died down and we cruised back out to the ocean. I managed one Ling at 27" and two more rockfish before Matt got too queezy and had to call it a day.

Overall, we had a great time out there and I know I can't wait to get back on the ocean in my kayak. I was really surprised by the stability of my Moken14.
