I have debated putting this up here, and I do it out of the understanding that there are those of us out there who been laid off and looking for work, and still have a need to put food on the table for their families.  Also i have to add this in there I am not a recruiter.

I know the National Guard is always looking for people in either a traditional weekend warrior role and as full time employees.  Over my 17 years with Guard I can say one thing, it has always been the best networking tool I have ever known for getting ahead. Because I am not a recruiter, I will say if your prior service the rules have changed to allow older veterans in.  Currently I am paying for my school through the Guards Federal Tuition Assistance program, as long as the program doesn't go away, I will go through school at no cost to me.  Not a bad deal.  There are always jobs for guardsman in counter drug, Active Guard Reserve Program, Federal Technician Program (mostly mechanics and Admin folks, but it varies you can Check the CA ARNG website for information).  For those of you who are veterans and know some one who wants to go in, if you bring them in they are paying upwards of $2,000 dollars to bring a recruit.

Also something that has come out in the last few years and has been a good program has been the Tricare Reserve Health Insurance Program ( I am not sure tha tis the correct name or not, but it is close).  It allows reservists in good standing to sign up for health insurance for themselves and I believe there families as well at very reasonable rates (don't ask me how much because I don't know).

I am not going to lie and say there aren't any deployments, I don't see into the future.  There is always that possibility, and if the Mexican Border keeps getting worse, I would not be surprised to see the Guard getting activated once again to help secure the border (just my thought on that).  Some of you may want some adventure , and may want to sign on for a deployment , there is always that option.

Being in Guard has been rewarding for me, and I use to its full advantage. I hit Moffet every other month to use the commisary there.  PX at other posts, and have fished at some really nice places as well.

I know some of you may not like that I posted this, but if I were to lose my job I would look at everything.  If this offends anyone you have my heartfelt apology upfront.

If you have questions feel free to ask me, and I will try to find some one in your area who can help you (tha tmay be admin person, or a recruiter or some one else).
