GREAT Islander news
« on: August 27, 2007, 03:14:05 pm »
I have the BEST news from the Islander.

The Mexican government relented - the trip in front of ours has their permits and will run out of San Diego. That means we are back to leaving on Saturday Nov 10 around 10 pm.

Here's where it gets really cool. To make up for the hassle they've put us through, instead of fishing until only 3 in the afternoon on our last day, they'll let us fish until dark. No one will need a hotel; we'll spend Tues night on the boat and roll back into San Diego around 6 am on Weds the 14th. It will cost us only $20 more apiece for crew wages but the boat time is FREE.

But wait, there's more! Anyone who wants to tank dive, bring your stuff. They'll have a compressor onboard. Prefer to hunt your lobsters from topside? I'll have a bunch of hoop nets to loan out. As long as you pack a radio and a light and some emergency flares, you can hoop off the yak (weather permitting).

The Islander guys are just as excited as we are. Prepare for a memorable trip!

I'm going with the original roster. Anyone who needs out (or back in!) please let me know ASAP so we can offer up your space. And again, thank-you for hanging with me. This is going to be incredible.

Paul

Trip summary:

Depart: 10 pm Sat Nov 10.
Return: 6 am Weds Nov 14
Fishing 3 FULL days, diving, hooping, and more
Cost: $705 ($20 more than the original $685). Includes 4 nights in well-appointed staterooms, all meals, bait, even TIPS. Drinks are extra but reasonable OR bring your own.

Paul,
Thanks for sticking with this!!!
A bit of info that might help sort out the wait list: When Dave (who originally signed on) dropped out (8/10) I took his spot, which is why I'm on the the original sign up list as Rocketman. When I signed on I also asked to have Slowmo added to the wait list (8/12)and sent a deposit for him and myself. Which is why you have us listed as having deposits already in. You have me Steve Hum (aka Rocketman) on the wait list and the original list. I think I should correctly be on the original list with "deposit in" and Walker (aka Slowmo) should be on the waitlist with "deposit in" also
Hope that helps and that  Walker and Dustin both can get on board.
Steve
I'm excited now!!!

Sweet.  That is great news.  It is always good to be patient.  I do not think I will be able to get SCUBA certified by then but the hoop nets sound like a good bet for bugs.  I will bring flairs.  Thanks Paul that is great news.  The roller coaster of emotions on this topic remind me of remodeling my house  :smt003 .

I'm definitely going to be scuba diving.  Everyone, if you've been considering getting certified - now would be the time.

Man, I'm going to have to start seriously working out so I have enough energy to do everything.  Fish, freedive, SCUBA dive, hoop net, party - holy full schedule batman!  Scuba diving is particularly draining - nitrogen accumulation in the blood causes fatigue, which is the mildest symptom of decompression sickness and occurs after every dive.
