Moving inland, maybe start a new trend in Idaho.......
« on: August 19, 2007, 09:43:27 am »
Well I am moving away from the coast to Boise, Idaho. I will miss the ocean, but plan to return as much as possible. I will miss my NCKA brothers. Hopefully I will get a few of you to join me in Idaho for some elk and deer hunts. I will still be checking out the sight and living my coastal life through all of you. Good luck to you all.

There is an amazing lake in northern Idaho called Pend Oreille (pronounced Pon-duh-ray). I was there in Coeur D' Alene 40 years ago for a boy scout jamboree. The fishing was insane. Huge trout caught on flies right from the shore. The bottom drops off into an abyss over 1000 feet deep just offshore. There are also lake trout there. I haven't been there since then, but I'm sure it's still a great place to swim, kayak, and fish:

There are numerous lakes closer to Boise the Pend Orille. South of Boise there is CJ Strike which has LMB & SMB and occasional sturgeon. There is Arrowhead right above Boise and eastbound there are Cascade and McCall.

There is also a small chain of lakes in a town called Hagerman known as Oster Lakes, if I can recall. I used to go there a lot for trout.

Oh yes then there is the infamous Anderson reservior between Mt Home & Sun Valley which is a nice warm reservior. It has a healthy population of Kokenee Salmon whih on the good years the rangers let you snag them out of the streams.

Idaho is a beautiful state and has a lot of outdoor activity to offer.  :smt001

Skyboy, I guess I should say welcome to NWKA!!!   :smt002

We have a few scattered members in Idaho.  The OK fishing Crew has a member in Northern Idaho too.  There are a few guys out of NRS that fish out of Moscow, ID.  But those are farther north that Boise.  I think we have a few members in Eastern OR, which is closer to your neck of the woods.  You might want to check out Brownlee Reservoir, just a bit to the NW of you.  Absolutely fantastic fishing for bass, crappie, cats.

guys, I lived there for 20 years prior to coming to Cali. I have fished evey lake mentioned so far. I also lived in Coeur D' Alene for a year in the late 90's, the lakes around there have great pike fishing as well. Thanks polepole, I accept your welcome and hope to fish with some of you in Idaho. My new cell is 208-608-3374 and with some notice I would take any of you on a fishing excursion or hunting, I guided elk for years there and can't wait to get back to that. Fall Steelhead is just around the corner, and I will be sure to post some of my trips here for all.

Congratulations on your return to Idaho.  Sounds like it's going to be a perfect fit for you.  If your ever at the Dutch Goose in Boise, the owners are serious hunters, fisherman,  Tom and JJ.

I've got mixed emotions Joe. Sad to see you taking off, but happy that you're getting back to the mountains. How does this affect your AK gig?

Very best wishes,
Scott

Mooch, We are leaving at the end of the Month. But trying to get out one last time on Friday.

Scott, Well with all that is happening, I had to cancel AK this year, I am suppose to be there right now. I am scheduled for the same gig and dates for 2008, but adding a 5 day moose hunt to the same schedule. It stinks, but hey, as you can imagine alot is going on right now.
